If you are thinking about installing a macadam surface, you should do some background checks. This is because you need a surface which you can use and be happy with and not one which poor quality or doesn’t meet your requirements.

The costs of installing tarmacadam outdoor flooring surfaces will vary from each job, it depends upon the area size, locations, existing surface and conditions and the type of design specification which you choose. We would be happy to create a bespoke design of the recreational tarmac areas for you and discuss the costs for this work, contact us through our enquiry form and we’ll get in touch as soon as possible.

Macadam Outdoor Play Surfacing

Macadam outdoor play surfacing is great because it allows you to be creative with the flooring. There are loads of options to make the surface unique for your facility. We can apply paint to a range of outdoor macadam surfaces in several colours. This is an excellent way to quickly give your surface some colour and make it look new.

We use anti-skid macadam paint and this will cover up any old markings which are on the tarmacadam surface. The good thing about the paint is that it is available in a range of colours and this lets you brighten up your facility. It’s vital if you have a tarmacadam surface in a school or nursery that you make it exciting by having games and activities upon the surface.

Thermoplastic marking designs can transform an existing surface into a fun macadam outdoor play surfacing area. This can encourage physical activities and education for children. To install the playground markings, the thermoplastic material is set out onto the tarmacadam and then it is heated at a high temperature until it melts onto the surface. It is a very fast process which is great for schools. It means the children may be out and playing as soon as the markings fully set. It’s also cost-effective for you as we don’t have the costs of multiple days on site.

Previously, paint would be applied to the tarmac but this can fade over time and wear out. Thermoplastic marking designs will last a lot longer and look a lot better because they are brighter. If you’re thinking about installing tarmacadam recreational surfaces for your outdoor area, please get in contact with us for more details. We can provide you with a range of specification sheets and designs as well as an idea of the costs for your project.

Tarmac Sports Surfaces

Tarmacadam is also a popular choice for sports facilities. Tarmac sports surfaces are great for things like netball, tennis and basketball. The surfacing could be installed for MUGA courts too. Once the tarmac has been installed on the facility, you may decide to alter the design by painting the surface with anti slip acrylic paint. This comes in a number of colours to meet your individual needs and requirements.

Sport line markings are also available for activities such as netball and basketball. Since kids are able to participate in numerous physical games, they can concentrate more during lessons so it is a lot easier to take in information. By participating in different games with other pupils, the children are able to develop socially as well as physically.

Kids can learn countless abilities including teamwork while actively playing the different games in the playground. It encourages them to spend more time with their classmates on the recreational spaces. Through doing this they can form brand new relationships. Colourful Designs on Tarmacadam Areas

We can apply colourful designs on tarmacadam areas to improve the playground and combine decorative graphic designs. Children can enjoy fun activities in addition to enhancing their physical health and learning valuable skills. They are perfect for all pupils age 5-11 in both KS1 and KS2. We can install academic markings so that the kids will play games to understand a variety of subjects. The most commonly chosen graphic designs may be things like number grids, clocks, phonics and cartoon animals.

You can install an array of patterns, measurements and colours to obtain a fantastic set of markings for your organisation. Heat applied plastic play area designs are generally great for parks, primary schools and day care organisations. They are strong and durable, plus they also offer anti slip qualities. Our specialists will administer improvements and renovation of pre-existing graphics to enhance them and add more decorative patterns. The variety of markings we are able to apply consists of a number of traditional activities. Some of the popular designs include:

  • Snakes and Ladders
  • Duck Duck Goose
  • What’s the Time Mr Wolf?
  • Road safety games
  • Numbers and letters
  • Sports activities
  • Times table grids
  • Dart boards
  • Throwing targets

It is very simple to install these colourful game designs onto your existing facility. We aim to cause minimum disruption and the work is usually complete in a day depending on the specification. Therefore the children can get back to having fun with the play area quickly.

Our installers will put the cut out markings onto the playground in the correct position. They will then add heat with a burner until the shapes adhere to the flooring. When the work is complete, the playground marking graphics result in a vibrant and durable finish. They are an effective way to enhance a play area’s appearance making it more enjoyable for the children. We take pride in being able to educate and entertain through the colourful recreational markings.

Wetpour Maintenance

If you have an EPDM rubber wetpour safety surface on your playground, it is important to carry out regular wet pour maintenance.

This helps to look after the flooring and make sure it doesn’t get dirty or become unsafe.

You can keep the rubber play surfacing clean by brushing the area to remove mud, debris and natural matter from the area. This prevents the pores in the surface from becoming blocked up.

Talk To Us

Wetpour After Care Maintenance

As wet pour rubber is a porous specification, it’s important to keep the small voids in the rubber surface free from dirt. This is so water can drain through instead of building up and making the area unsafe for use by the children.

Cleaning

We carry out pressure washing of wetpour playground flooring across the UK. A professional contractor should always complete this process to ensure the correct technique.

This also makes sure the flooring does not suffer damage from the high pressure of the jet wash. You should angle the spray to blast away dirt, rather than pointing it directly down. This helps to avoid causing damage to the flooring when cleaning.

A regular jet wash is a good way of proactively cleaning your wetpour safety surfacing. This will keep it clear of dirt and contamination. It also ensures that it’s suitable for kids to play on and not slippery from puddles or debris and tther atmospheric conditions.

If you have chewing gum, foreign objects or something else stuck on the wearing course, it is recommended to get a professional to clean this off.

Aftercare

After your wetpour playground surface installation, we can offer a range of wet pour after care. We also have products to help you look after the flooring and keep it in top condition.

If you have minor rips in the safety surface, from vandalism or play equipment, this could develop into a trip hazard. This is why we recommend wetpour repairs as soon as possible.

One of the products we can provide for wetpour maintenance is a specialist repair kit. This includes all the equipment you will need to fix the affected area on your rubber play surface.

The kits or the wet pour repairs contain the correct ratio of EPDM rubber granules and polyurethane binder. These should be mixed together and used to carry out small repairs to the damaged area of surfacing.

We supply these wetpour repair kits in a range of colours so you can choose the right colour option for your own playground.

When carrying out minor wet pour repair work, we advise that you cut around the damage area into a shape. This can be a simple shape such as a triangle or star. You would then need to fill in the gap with an alternative colour.

If you try to match with the same colour as the existing rubber surface, it may not match exactly. The rubber on the play area itself may have faded over time so it would be slightly different to the new rubber in the wet pour repair kit.

Wet Pour Surface Upkeep

We can also supply you with a liquid de-icer as part of the wetpour surface after care maintenance. You can apply this onto the playground surface to prevent ice from forming on it during very cold weather. This should then stop the area from becoming slippery and unsafe for the children.

Applying the liquid de-icer will ensure that the play area is safe for use all year round. The children can continue to enjoy outdoor play during cold spells.

Please use our contact form to get in touch with us if you need some advice on wet pour maintenance.

How to Maintain Wet Pour

Regular maintenance is vital as it helps to keep the area safe and in top condition. If there is dirt within the pores, a power spray can remove debris that are difficult to reach.

The EPDM rubber system is completely porous to make sure liquid moves through. This will help prevent any flooding.

It’s vital that you keep the permeable properties and stop any holes being blocked up by debris and also contaminants.

This could trigger floods during bad weather, making the area unusable. It could potentially be hazardous as a slippy surface might result in injuries. If you leave maintenance too late, don’t worry as restoration solutions are available.

Proactive Servicing for Wetpour Surface

It is recommended to carry out proactive servicing for wetpour to ensure the surface remains safe to use. You will also need to complete proactive servicing to keep the surface looking nice.

If you do not undertake regular cleaning, the surface can become dirty and can lose its anti slip properties. This means that you could then lose points during Ofsted inspections.

We also recommend regular inspections to ensure the surface is not unsafe for young people. If you come across rips and tears in the surfacing when inspecting the area, it is vital that you deal with the problem straight away. This should ensure that it doesn’t lead to any further damage.

If your surface does suffer damage over time or due to heavy use, our specialist team can carry out wet pour repairs.

Wetpour Rubber Granules Supplies

We can supply wetpour rubber granules to create a great slip resistant surface for playgrounds. The EPDM rubber surface consists of a two layer porous impact absorbing system.

This makes it a safe flooring which meets the critical fall height (CFH) requirements. Wetpour safety surfacing contains a two tier system, this is a shock pad and the wearing course.

The impact absorbing base layer depth can be changed to meet the CFH of each area. The base layer thickness varies from 30mm to 150mm.

The wearing course normally consists of 1-4mm EPDM wet pour rubber granules. We then mix this with the polyurethane resin and pour it onto the surface. The appearance of the EPDM will depend on the colours that the school or nursery chooses to have. We offer a range of colours for wetpour including:

  • Black
  • Blue
  • Red
  • Green
  • Orange
  • Yellow
  • Purple
  • Pink

We also offer a range of colour mixes with many colours together in one design. The choice is completely up to you, but premium colours will come at a higher price. View our full wet pour colour chart to see all the options we have.

How much does Wet Pour Cost?

A number of things can alter the price of a wetpour surface. One of the biggest factors which can alter the cost of wetpour is the size of the area.

Obviously a bigger area will cost more than a smaller area, however, the rate per square metre will be cheaper for a larger area due to the economies of scale. Another thing that can have an effect on the price of wetpour is the colour. Black wetpour comes in at a cheaper price compared to colours as it doesn’t require a dying process.

Wetpour Specification

Our main aim is to make certain our team are happy with the installations we offer. Since this is our main goal, we offer many specifications to meet your individual needs. We can also alter our designs and specs to meet your requirements, so please do not hesitate to get in touch.

The EPDM flooring specification consists of a two-layer system. This includes the base layer and the top wearing course layer. The base layer is made up of 100% recycled styrene butadiene rubber crumb granules that we mix with a binder. This is 2-6mm thick but it can vary to meet the CFH (Critical Fall Height).

When the shock pad installation is complete, the next step is to install the wearing course. This is 1-4mm EPDM rubber that we mix with the polyurethane resin and pour onto the shock pad. The wearing course is available in a range of wet pour colours, such as black, red, green, blue, purple, teal etc.

Feel free to get in touch with our team today if you have any questions about this specification. We would be happy to talk about this more and look at your budget so we can offer an affordable price. Wetpour Q26 360 Specifications

Wetpour Q26360 is part of the CAWS specification. This is what we look at when designing your rubber safety surface. We also use this to make sure that we meet all the necessary safety requirements.

The rubber crumb specification can vary depending on different factors. If it is for a playground, we have to measure the CFH of the playground equipment. We also have to assess the existing area and see what condition that is in.

Another wet pour advantage is that graphics that can be installed. This is a fantastic way to brighten up the safety surface, especially if it installed in black. There is a large range of wetpour graphics and they can be fun as well as educational. The graphics give you the option to make your own bespoke playground.

We can help design wetpour specifications. The different design specifications you choose will affect the costs. This is because there are a range of variables when designing your facility. The depth of the flooring and the EPDM rubberised crumb colour also can make it a more expensive project. We always try and meet each client’s budget as best as we can.

Critical Fall Height Requirements

We can install the surfacing in different depths to meet different critical fall height requirements.

The CFH varies depending on how high the play equipment is in the area and the existing sub base. Generally the higher the play equipment, the thicker the wetpour needs to be. The CFH varies to make certain that children don’t get hurt if they fall off the play equipment.

A similar measurement to consider is the Head Injury Criterion (HIC). The playground surface HIC is important in keeping children safe outdoors.

Wet Pour Repair

Wet pour is a relatively low maintenance specification. Prolonged heavy use and weather can lead to damage or flooding in some parts of the playground surfacing.

If your wetpour surface shows signs of wear and tear, it may be time for repairs.

Wetpour repairs are essential for maintaining the safety and longevity of your rubber playground surface.

At Soft Surfaces, we specialise in various types of wetpour repair to ensure your safety surfacing remains in excellent condition.

Addressing these issues as soon as possible will prevent their spread and reduce the chance of the area becoming unsafe for children.

If you would like more information or a quote for wetpour repair, please don’t hesitate to contact us today.

What are the Different Types of Wetpour Repairs?

Wetpour repairs include various techniques, such as perimeter shrinkage, patch and crack repairs, joint repair, wear pad under swings, complete surface replacement, and subbase repairs.

Perimeter Shrinkage Repairs

Perimeter shrinkage repairs address the common issue of shrinkage around the edges of wetpour surfaces, which can compromise the integrity of the entire surface.

When left unattended, the shrinkage can result in water seepage, weakening the base and causing more extensive damage over time.

This is because wetpour rubber is prone to shrinking and expanding, which can be caused by the fluctuating hot and cold weather in the UK.

Wetpour Perimeter Band Repair

When this happens, the rubber surface can pull away from the perimeter edge.

This leaves a gap, which can be dangerous and cause trip hazards for children. It is essential to get this problem repaired as soon as possible.

We carry out wetpour perimeter shrinkage repairs to playground surfacing in the UK.

This is done by filling in the gap around the edges of the play area with a new application of EPDM rubber. We often do this in a different colour to create a contrasting border around the surrounding area.

Patch Repairs

Wetpour patch repair is often necessary after removing play equipment, as the stands leave holes in the surface. Other factors, like vandalism or overuse, can also damage safety surfaces.

Depending on the extent of the damage, we may need to repair the wearing course or the base rubber.

Wetpour Patch Repair Marking Out

For these repairs, we recommend cutting out a shape around the damaged area with a Stanley knife and filling it with an alternative colour material to account for colour fading over time. We offer a wide variety of colours in our range.

For minor repairs, consider a wetpour repair kit to save on costs.

These kits allow you to fix small areas, eliminating travel and labour expenses. Each kit contains the correct ratio of polyurethane resin binder and EPDM rubber granules.

Patch repairs address minor damage, preventing escalation into more significant issues.

Wetpour Patch Repair

The process involves cleaning the damaged area, priming it for better bonding, applying the patch material evenly, and allowing it to cure properly for a seamless finish. Prompt repairs prevent safety hazards and extend the surface’s lifespan.

Contact us for more information on wet pour repair kits or our minor localised wet pour repairs to ensure you get the perfect product or service.

Crack Repairs

Crack repairs are essential for maintaining the safety and integrity of existing wetpour surfaces, especially in high-traffic areas.

When left unrepaired, cracks can worsen, leading to more significant issues that compromise the surface’s aesthetics and pose serious safety risks.

Wetpour Crack Repair

Proper crack repairs help prevent water seepage and moisture retention, weakening the rubber material and accelerating its deterioration.

By addressing cracks promptly, you not only extend the lifespan of the rubber flooring but also ensure a safe environment for users. Regular maintenance and timely crack repairs are key in upholding the durability and performance of wet-pour surfaces.

Joint Repair

Joint repair involves fixing the seams and joints in wetpour surfaces, which can separate over time due to environmental factors and regular usage.

Our wetpour repair specialists meticulously apply the wetpour to fill any gaps or separations in the surface, then apply resin to seal and bond the joints seamlessly.

This meticulous approach ensures that the repaired surface maintains its integrity and durability, even under heavy foot traffic or varying weather conditions.

Wear Pad Repair

Repairing wear pads under swings and other areas with heavy footfall is crucial for reinforcing the wet pour surface in high-impact areas and ensuring the rubber surface remains safe and durable.

These pads act as a protective barrier between the metal swing legs and the ground, preventing direct contact that could cause damage over time.

By absorbing the impact and distributing weight evenly, wear pads help extend the lifespan of the surfacing material beneath the swings.

They provide a smooth surface for children to land on, reducing the risk of injuries during play.

Properly installed wear pads can also save maintenance costs by reducing the need for frequent repairs to the wet pour surface. They are a cost-effective investment in ensuring the safety and longevity of playground surfacing.

Wetpour Overlay/Recap

Wetpour rubber overlay, or recap, restores damaged or worn surfaces by adding a new layer of EPDM rubber over the existing one.

This process extends the surface’s lifespan, enhances safety, and refreshes its appearance.

Dark Green Wetpour Overlay

It involves cleaning the old surface, applying a bonding agent, and installing the new rubber layer.

This cost-effective and efficient method avoids the need for complete surface removal. Wetpour rubber overlay is ideal for playgrounds, sports areas, and other safety surfaces needing renewal.

Full Surface Replacement

A total surface replacement may be necessary when extensive damage or wear has compromised the safety and functionality of the wetpour surface.

When considering a complete surface replacement for a playground, it is crucial to assess the level of wear and tear that may affect the area’s safety.

This process involves removing the existing wetpour surface to address underlying issues, such as poor drainage or uneven surfacing.

Blue and Yellow Wetpour Replacement

Installing a new safety surface requires meticulous attention to detail to ensure proper installation and optimal safety standards.

Choosing suitable safety surfacing materials is essential for the longevity and durability of the playground surface.

Incorporating effective drainage solutions is also critical to prevent water accumulation and maintain a safe environment for children.

Addressing these critical factors during the replacement process can guarantee a long-lasting, safe playground surface that adheres to the highest safety standards.

Sub Base Repairs

Sub-base repairs are essential for addressing foundational issues beneath the wetpour surface, ensuring long-term durability and stability.

One crucial aspect of sub-base repairs is removing existing wetpour and installing a recognised sub-base.

Incorporating high-quality materials in the repair process enhances the overall resilience of the wetpour surface, making it more resistant to wear and tear from heavy traffic or harsh weather conditions.

Investing in proper sub-base repairs and using materials like MOT Type 1 stone or open textured macadam can significantly extend the lifespan of your wetpour surface, saving time and money on future maintenance.

Each wet pour kit contains EPDM rubber granules available in various colours. Please see our Colour EPDM chart within our product information.
