MUGA Anti Slip Sports Coatings

MUGA Anti Slip Sports Coatings are installed on all types of sports courts throughout the UK. A multi use sports facility is generally coated to meet the slip resistance for the sports played on the sports surfaces and the main types on anti slip paint used are acrylic paint which is mainly installed onto type 1 and type 2 MUGAs which are tarmac / macadam surfacing. The acrylic coating meets slip resistance for tennis, netball, basketball and football.

Polyurethane Court Paint

Another popular anti slip paint used is a polyurethane paint which is generally installed onto type 3 and type 4 sports courts which are generally polymeric surfaces. Polymeric surfaces are rubber EPDM crumb that is installed insitu on site. The rubber crumb is mixed with a polyurethane binder and poured in place to cure.

The rubber surface takes approx 24 hours to cure and is a moisture cure system. The polyurethane is then painted and coated onto the sports surface to give the slip resistance suitable for sports courts where basketball, netball, football, athletics, tennis and lacrosse is played.

MUGA Line Markings

Multi use games area sports coating gives the sports courts a great look, as well as the playing performance needed and the sports surfaces, are line marked. Netball line marking is installed in yellow mostly, football line marking is generally in white and basketball sports lines mainly in red however this is changed from site to site because of the coloured background.

In the video below you can see our team repainting the line markings onto a tarmac MUGA in Derby:

Maintaining Anti Slip Coatings

The non slip painting system in the UK will need a respray every few years. This will help it stay in top condition and maintain the slip resistant qualities. Whether it is a tennis court, netball playing surface, football kickabout area or multisport surfacing dual use recreational area, you should test it regularly. You should do this to make sure it meets the slip resistance and skid resistance by the governing bodies specifications.

Feel free to get in touch with us today if you’d like to find out more about what we do. One of our team would be happy to give you a quote for any anti slip sports coatings you need.

Type 3 Polymeric Surfacing MUGA

Type 3 polymeric surfacing MUGA facilities are rubber surface specifications which are ideal for a variety of sports with the main sport as netball. Other activities played on the multi use games area will be football, tennis, basketball, athletics and 5-a-side football.

Polymeric Surfacing Specification

The Type 3 polymeric material is commonly installed in schools and is designed to have a high slip resistance rating for netball. The polymeric system is made up of EPDM rubber crumb granules which are mixed together with a binder and then laid onto a macadam base. An anti slip paint coating is then applied to give the stable playing characteristics and the rubber EPDM surface gives the sport surface a cushioned underfoot feel. Line markings can also be applied to the flooring contrasting coloured non slip paint to distinguish between the different sports which the facility will be used for.

Once the polymeric surfacing has been installed, there is the option to have a range of extra accessories and equipment included with the full construction project. These could be fencing in a variety of heights from 3m-5m, sports floodlighting, and maintenance equipment to help you keep your surface sport court in top condition. Having these extra accessories can help you make the most out of your new sport facility by giving you the opportunity to rent it out to other clubs and teams for training sessions and competitive matches in the evening.

Polymeric Sports Surface

This surface is composed of a rubberized crumb and mixed with a binding agent. The rubber utilised is wonderful for sports a result of the bounce and grip attributes the surfacing possesses. Netball, tennis, long jump runways and high jump zones traditionally have this type of flooring. Polymeric rubber surfaces are permeable, so this means they can be utilized year-round. Polymeric wet pour is available in a selection of colours.

You ought to thoroughly clean your sport surface frequently to maintain it in great condition. Sweeping is very good to get rid of any sort of contamination. If perhaps your sports pitch will need more specialist maintenance then our pro companies can come to site.

We can carry out the installation of EPDM sport surfacing for a number of schools, colleges and sport clubs across the United Kingdom. If you’d like to see one of our installations, please see the video below:

Please see video transcript below:

00:07 Hey, guys. This is Dan from Soft Surfaces here. In today’s video, we’re going to show you an artificial grass installation in the Swarkestone, Derby area.

00:16 The first thing we actually did for this installation was to inspect the natural grass that was already there and obviously make plans for the size of the artificial grass, which was going to be installed. This obviously means measuring up this existing area, which you can see, and obviously just kind of taping off where we feel we need to install the facility.

00:29 Next up, the sub-base and edging is actually installed in preparation for the artificial grass. This means obviously removing the existing surface, fitting the edging and the sub-base and then it’s ready get the grass finish.

00:39 The completed project is actually here, you can see in the photos. The artificial grass is now laid. It looks absolutely fantastic for this little small playground facility. Obviously they’ve got their wooden games that they can play on here with that as well. It’s a great little area for the kids to kind of go and enjoy during their lunch breaks.
Thanks a lot for watching guys, and I’ll see you guys later.

Benefits of Artificial Grass Surfacing in Swarkestone, Derby

Having a artificial grass surface installed in the Swarkestone, Derby area has many benefits, these include the following:

  • Artificial grass always look aesthetically pleasing in all kinds of weather. This is because the weather doesn’t actually have any direct impact on the surface. The surface will continue to stay green all year round.
  • Artificial grass as a surface requires a lot less maintenance as the surface doesn’t need to be watered, fertilised or mowed like real grass.
  • You will spend less time maintaining your garden or surface, this means you will spend more time enjoying the surface.
  • If you want to have artificial grass in your garden for example, the surface is much more weed resistant than natural grass so weeds are less likely to grown through artificial turf than real turf. By laying a weed membrane and applying weed killer, you can be practically weed-free.
  • Due to the materials it is made from, artificial grass stays pest-free. On the other hand, natural grass provides the perfect environment for bugs and pests which you need to spend to spend time, effort, money and harmful pesticide to rid your lawn of.
  • Artificial grass is a very durable surface. It can withstand wear and tear, is also weather proof, does not dry out, does not get waterlogged and will not fall victim to pest infestations. It is way more robust tan real grass.

How Is Artificial Grass Installed?

Recently, artificial grass has seen a huge increase in popularity in a wide variety of locations. Whether that be homes, nurseries and schools, sports facilities etc. people are starting to notice the benefits artificial has over organic.

The process of installing these products should be completed carefully by experienced contractors to ensure that the end result is the best possible quality.

Artificial Grass Installation Guide

Artificial grass can seem incredibly complicated and confusing when first looking into it. Once you know everything about it though, it becomes simpler than organic turf! Installing fake lawns offers so many customisable options and some extra benefits in which the natural surface struggles to meet.

With modern synthetic turf being UV stable, this eliminates the chance of the surface losing its colour through exposure to natural sunshine. You can also pick the shade of green that you wish to see your lawn as. Whether it is a bright green or dark green, any shade of green can be applied to the area for you. Check out this post as well to see the benefits of having an artificial grass garden.

Synthetic Turf Lawn Installers

When it comes to installing synthetic turf, it can be a long, tiring and expensive process to do if you try and install it by yourself. In addition, most people who end up trying to install artificial turf without any help from an installer usually damage the area in which they want to install the fake grass. This can make the process even harder especially when you’re trying to achieve the perfect lawn.

Get in Touch

That’s why professional synthetic turf lawn installers are usually the best option to go with. Before you pick one though, it’s recommended that you do some background checks and receive some client references about the company, so you can understand a bit more about the installation process and timing.

Soft Surfaces can help with the installation of synthetic turf surfacing. We have completed many projects including school artificial grass for playgrounds and other areas.

With over 20 years of experience and a team made up of professionals, installing synthetic turf couldn’t be any easier. Just tell the team what kind of design you would like (colour of turf, depth of grass, measurements etc.) and we’ll get straight on it. Usually, it takes us around 2-3 days to complete an installation fully, but this really depends on the size and requirements of the project.

These products can be installed to domestic locations along with nursery gardens, visitor attractions and other outdoor spaces.

Laying a Fake Grass Lawn

The process of going from a muddy, dirty lawn to a clean, nice looking synthetic surface is quite long but our team will complete it to the highest standards. The process goes as follows:

  • Remove the existing grass – The top layer of soil is removed to show the bottom layer.
  • Compact the ground – A roller or vibrating plate is then used to flatten the bottom layer of soil.
  • Prevent weeds from growing – We’ll place a weed blocking membrane over the ground. This decreases the chances of weeds from growing through and will allow vital drainage.
  • Lay sand – Sand is then added on top of the membrane, which is compacted and sharp, with a minimum of 40mm.
  • Place grass edging down – This will hold the artificial carpet in place and stop it from moving about. It’s usually made a bit smaller than the turf so that water can run off the edges.
  • Rolling out the turf – When the previous steps are done, our team will then start to roll out the fake grass. This process should be done correctly (slowly and steady) or else the weed-killing membrane can be damaged.
  • Let the carpet settle – For a minimum of three hours (preferably overnight though); the turf is left to settle to stop any wrinkling or creasing occurring.
  • Cut and trim the edges – Excess synthetic turf is then cut off so the artificial grass fits perfectly in the specified area.
  • Joining and pinning – Adhesive is applied underneath the grass to glue it firmly to the floor and together. Once the positioning is good, the turf will then be pinned down to hold it in position.
  • Sand infill – Next we’ll apply a layer of sand throughout the surface which helps to keep the fibres upright and even.
  • Brush up the carpet – Finally, a simple brush of the fibres will get the fake blades to stand up and look more natural, giving it a beautiful finish.

Not only can synthetic turf be installed on existing grassy areas, but it can be installed on concrete and follows a similar procedure to the one above. Enquire today to see for yourself.

5 A Side Football MUGA Surface in Gloucester Case Study

Having a synthetic 5-a-side football MUGA facility built is a popular choice for many clubs and schools in the UK as it can often be difficult to look after a natural grass pitch, especially during periods of wet weather.

Contact Us

Artificial turf sports pitches can be used for many activities including football, rugby and hockey as the specification of the grass carpet can be designed differently to suit the needs of each sport. This makes the specification versatile, meaning that schools and clubs can use the surface all year round and for a number of different activities. Check out this post to see the benefits of MUGA pitches in schools.

MUGA facilities can also help promote teamwork and develop a range of skills, which you can see more about in this post.

5-a-side Football MUGA Construction

We recently built a 5-a-side football MUGA in 3G synthetic grass for a client in Gloucester who wanted to convert an unusable grass area into a multi-purpose all-weather sports facility. Before we could begin the construction for the 5-a-side MUGA facility, we had to excavate the existing natural grass down to the desired depth to prepare a suitable foundation for the installation.

After excavating the ground for the sports pitch, the next part of this construction project was to put in a porous stone sub base layer to act as a strong and durable sports pitch foundation. The dynamic stone sub base is specially designed to be used in sports facility installations because it’s porous to allow efficient drainage, and it is very long-lasting and strong.

We compacted the stone down to lock each of the particles together and keep it secure before the next stage of the multi-use sports surface construction. Next, we added a macadam base layer on top of the porous stones, this makes a smooth foundation that is perfect for the 3G synthetic carpet to be installed onto.

Take a look at the video below to see the construction process for this facility from start to finish:

Installing the 3G Grass Carpet

To install the 3G synthetic turf for the 5-a-side football MUGA, we rolled the carpet out onto the macadam base and glued the pieces down at the edges and the seams. The specialised glue is designed to be extremely long-lasting and durable so the artificial turf carpet will stay in place through heavy year-round use.

Once the synthetic grass has been installed, we then put in a sand and rubber infill which keeps the artificial fibres upright and creates the right playing characteristics for the 5-a-side football pitch facility. Over time this infill can become compacted and dirty, so it’s important to regularly maintain it by drag brushing to keep the particles evenly spread across the surface.

After the 3G synthetic grass had been fully installed and the line markings were applied, the end result for this project was a top-quality synthetic football pitch facility that can be used for a number of activities. 3G pitches are becoming more popular in the UK because they have similar playability to natural grass but they require much less maintenance.

Once installed, a synthetic grass surface is a lot cheaper to run and maintain and can be used all year round in all weather conditions so the facility can be rented out to generate extra revenue. Check out this post to find out more about maintaining these pitches throughout the year.

Soft Surfaces Ltd was approached two years ago with regards to a multi use games area that was constructed in macadam, as the school did not think this was the correct sports surface for their sporting needs which included football, tennis, netball and a general multitude of sports. However they also said that they used this area as their main playground so it was going to be heavily use and therefore we specified and designed within our quotation the MultiSport Synthetic Surfacing which is supplied by Playrite who are based in West Yorkshire and a specialist in manufacturing artificial sports surfaces.

Benefits of Needlepunch MUGA Surfacing in London

Having a needlepunch MUGA installed in the London area has many benefits, these include the following:

Low Maintenance

Needlepunch MUGA surfacing are a virtually maintenance free surface that only require an occasional sweep and brush clean. If you compare this to a synthetic turf which require a bit more maintenance it is easily understood the reasons why you would opt for a needlepunch MUGA surface, however both of these are minimal when compared to the maintenance required for a grass pitch.

All Weather Surface

Needlepunch MUGA surfaces can be used all year round, this is great for schools and outdoor exercise activities because you will still be able to carry out your exercise even with a wet surface. The main benefit of a needlepunch MUGA when compared to a grass pitch is that grass pitches can be waterlogged which can lead to games being called off and postponed.

Multi Sports Usage

Not only do MUGA’s save space but it also saves a lot of money because you are getting multiple sports court laid on top of one another. This makes a MUGA pitch a very affordable proposition for amateur sports clubs, as a number of different of clubs can split the cost of the installation between then, this would massively reduce the cost.

Multisport Long Jump Track Installation

We installed a Multisport synthetic long jump track for a school in Leicester. The facility included a full run-up and a smaller practice lane to use for training. Check out the video below to see the full work and the final result.

Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Multisport Long Jump with practice Lane Install in Leicester.

So for this installation the client contacted us interested in a full long jump facility with a practice lane to be fitted onto their grass field. We explained the options that we offer them, and we were quickly on site working on the long jump facility.

Here at Soft Surfaces we can build these sports facilities in many different surface types, however, for this work we opted for a Multisport surfacing for their long jump runway.

Multisport is a really excellent choice for outdoor sports surfacing such as these as its a hard-wearing surface making it ideal for regular outdoor use.

It’s also very well-suited to the outdoors as a result of its brilliant porous qualities, meaning water is actually absorbed by the flooring during our many rainy months.

Contact Us

The advantages of multisport don’t stop there either, as this flooring offers wonderful playability under foot for running tracks and long jumps such as these.

Multisport is also a customisable surface, in the sense that you can specify how many lanes you’d like fitted, as well as the colours of each lane and even the sand pit. We even fitted a practice lane for this particular job!

At Soft Surfaces we’ve been building and maintaining long jump and triple jump runways nationwide for over 20 years now, and are proud of our reputation as market leaders in the field for this service. Feel free to get in touch with us if you’re interested in any of our work!

You can see now the works have been done, and the long jump looks great fitted on the field. The client themselves were so happy with what we’d built for them.

Wet Pour Rubber Surfacing Installation

We have installed a rubber safety surface for a nursery school playground in Preston, Lancashire. Watch the video below to see the full project from start to finish.

Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you an Outdoor Nursery School Surfacing in Preston.

So this nursery had an outdoor space that they were looking to have transformed into a colourful play area that prioritised the safety of the kids at the school. We broke down the many advantages of the wetpour surfacing we fit, and soon after we were at the nursery cracking on with the job.

So here at Soft Surfaces we’ve been installing wetpour surfacing nationwide for over 20 years now, and are proud to have become a market leader for this actual surface type.

Wetpour surfacing is a safety surface made up on an EPDM rubber compound, and it’s because of it’s spongy rubber credentials that wetpour is the most popular option for safety surfaces here in the UK, as this surface meets the critical fall height requirements needed.

In addition to this, wetpour is also loved due to the fact that clients have the freedom to specify the colour and design of their new playground surfacing too, from any colour combination you can think of to custom graphic installations, all of this is possible with us and can be discussed during the enquiry stage.

Find Out More

Finally, wetpour is the perfect outdoor playground surface too, as it’s porous qualities make it much less likely to flood during rainy months than it’s competitors. Overall, it’s the ideal play area surface here in the UK.

You can see now that the job has been fully completed, and looks stunning as their new play surface. The client we’re buzzing with the final result.

Despite doing our work nationwide, we’ve carried out a lot of jobs in the Preston area and now rank in Google for these keywords:

  • Preston School Play Area Company
  • Wetpour Surfacing Experts in Lancashire
  • Playground Safety Surfaces in Preston
  • Lancashire Outdoor Nursery Flooring
  • Wetpour EPDM Rubber Installers Preston
  • Any many more.

Pre School Playground Surface Installation

This video shows our team installing a wetpour safety surface with graphics for a pre school in Wigan.

Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Pre-School Play Area Surfacing in Wigan.

So this pre-school previously had a tiled flooring that you can see here, but wanted to have a new surface fitted than encouraged play, looked great and prioritised safety. We explained the wetpour surfacing we offer to them, and we were booked in right away.

So wetpour is the perfect surface type for pre-schools and nurseries such as this one, as it ticks every box the client was looking for: safety, aesthetics and playability.

Lets start with safety. So wetpour is a surface type made up of an EPDM rubber compound, and this gives the surface a spongy feel to it. Most importantly, this enables wetpour to meet the critical fall height requirements needed for playgrounds here in the UK, therefore making it one of the safest surfaces you can have fitted.

Talk To Us

Additionally, in terms of appearance, wetpour is extremely customisable. You can have your wetpour area installed in any colour or colours you’d like, and the ability to have custom graphics such as educational games fitted to the surface helps to encourage play amongst the kids. We can plan all of this out with you prior to the install.

Finally, due to it’s rubber buildup, wetpour is also a porous system, making it absolutely perfect as an outdoor playground surface here in the United Kingdom.

We’ve been installing wetpour nationwide for over 20 years now, and no job is too big or too small for us, so please get in touch if you are interested.

You can see now the job has been completed, and has completely transformed the area. The school themselves were so happy with the work we did for them.

Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Colourful Playground Flooring Design in Cardiff, Wales.

So the client that got in touch with us for this installation was a nursery, and and gave us a call to discuss the best options for their play area facility. They wanted to make sure safety was a priority, but that the new flooring also brightened up their existing area.

We proposed that the best surface choice for them was wetpour, a spongy rubber EPDM solution that is a perfect choice for playgrounds here in the United Kingdom. This surface’s rubber make up means that safety is no concern with wetpour, in fact it’s arguably the safest surface you can have fitted!

Furthermore, choosing a wetpour flooring to have fitted to a playground gives the client the ability to specify their new surface in almost any colour imaginable, and you even have the ability to have the play area fitted in a multi-coloured specification if you so wish.

And it doesn’t stop there, if you’re interested in making your playground totally unique, wetpour graphics can be fitted level to the surface, and can include things such as number and letter games, shape designs, custom logos and more. Both colours and graphics can be fully planned out with us during the enquiry stage.

At Soft Surfaces we are a market leading playground surfacing installer, and have been fitting various surfaces nationwide for over 20 years. No job is too big or too small for us to complete, so feel free to give us a call or drop us an email if you’re interested.

You can see from these photos now that the work has been completed, and has completely transformed their outdoor nursery area. The client opted for a majoritively blue finish with a black roadway through the middle, and a variety of educational graphics spread throughout. They were over the moon with the work we did for them.
