Reasons Why All Weather Pitch Surfacing Gets Waterlogged and Flooded

There are many reasons why all weather pitch surfacing gets waterlogged and flooded and the first finger pointed is to the sports construction company who built the pitch. This is because the drainage system which has been put in might not be adequate and could be unsuitable for a particular climate if there is lots of rain therefore causing water to build up on the pitch surface. However the sports surface drainage problems are often due to a lack of maintenance which leads the sand and rubber infill to become contaminated or compacted.

My explanation on this is to compare the synthetic sports pitch to a bath with a plug hole to let the water to run out of the bath so that it never holds any water. Once the contractors have built the bath and the water runs out nicely everything seems fine. Well years down the line if you were to throw a load of mud into the bath and let it build up clogging the plug hole then over years the bath would stop letting the water drain away.

A similar thing happens when all weather pitch surfacing gets waterlogged as dirt and debris get stuck within the pores of the surface and block them up, preventing water from draining away.

Synthetic Grass Pitch Maintenance

In a nutshell regular maintenance is needed and the number one killer for these pitches is badly maintained systems where companies come and just drag brush the existing contaminated infill around the pitch and then throw some new silica sand on top to make it look nice. This type of maintenance doesn’t really help the sports pitch and it still requires a deep clean and rejuvenation.

After 7-10 years of the all weather pitch a rejuvenation maintenance visit is advised which includes removing the dirty sand from the sand filled synthetic turf pitch and replacing with new which gets rid of all the moss, algae and algal squidge which has built up and makes the all weather pitch drain freely again. Having this process carried out improves the performance qualities of the surface as well as preventing artificial grass flooding.

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Tennis Court Maintenance in Woking, Surrey.

So this client gave us a call explaining how their existing tennis court facility had a very large buildup of moss and algae contamination. We took a look at some photos of the surface, and when we explained what we could do for them they booked us in straight away to get to work.

So like any sports surface, if neglected the flooring can quickly become contaminated and damaged. Here at Soft Surfaces we recommend carrying out regular proactive maintenance to prevent this, however we are able to transform unplayable surfaces back to their best.

For this particular facility, luckily the flooring itself had not become damaged to the point where a complete resurface was needed, and instead we were able to carry out our specialist clean & paint service to restore the court back to it’s best.

You can see from the photos here that the the cleaning process of the job has been completed, with the surface’s previous build up of moss and algae removed. The next step was to repaint the surface, fresh with new line markings to match.

We respray our courts with an anti-slip colour coating that can be applied onto macadam surfaces, and this can be resprayed in practically any colour choice you like. The client for this actual job went a light/dark green combo, and coupled with the new line markings it really helped restore the surface to it’s best.

So we were contacted by the owner of this sports court, who explained that their court was starting to show signs of wear, and they were looking to help their surface come back to life.

We took a good look at the flooring and came to the conclusion that a resurface was not needed as damage was not extensive enough, so instead we carried out small repairs, followed by full clean and paint for their area.

So the first thing we did was to professionally clean the existing area, ensuring any build-up of moss and algae contamination was completely removed. This process involves us using our specialist jet-washer thoroughly until all contamination is removed.

So this client previously had a worn out tarmacadam surface that they initially feared needed resurfacing, however after getting in contact with us and showing us some photos of the surface, we reassured them that we could bring their surface back to life with an anti-slip painting.

With the cleaning and painting we offer to sports courts, we carry out a process involving thoroughly cleaning the surface, fixing any small repairs needed and then finally applying our anti-slip paint in the colour or colours you’d like.

For this particular job, once the professional cleaning and repair services had been carried out, the next step was to apply the green, purple and red anti-slip painting that the client specified. They also wanted to ensure that the line markings applied were perfect for a netball facility, so we designed that with them prior to the install.

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Long Jump Runway Installation in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

So for this job this school contacted us explaining they’d like a full long jump facility fitted on their existing school field. We explained the services we offer, and once a date was mutually agreed we got right to work.

The surface type we used for this long jump installation was a multisport synthetic surface, and is a great choice for long jump and triple jump use. This is as a result of how great it is to both run and jump on this surface.

In addition to this, many of our clients love the fact that synthetic surfacing can be installed in a huge amount of different colours choices, including many multicoloured options! The possibilities are endless, and mean those having this surface type fitted can specify the perfect finish to suit your area.
