Bonded Rubber mulch construction is often carried out as this is an ideal safety surface for parks, gardens and playgrounds. The special attributes and installation of this type of surface allows for high absorption of impacts reducing the risk of injuries to children playing on the surface.

Rubber Mulch Depth for Playground

Bound rubber mulch construction goes onto a special geotextile sheet with a base layer and the specialist rubber mulch wearing course. Our 40mm system is the most popular rubber mulch depth for playground surfaces and meets all the safety requirements. Thicker depths are applied on playgrounds containing play equipment to add extra safety qualities.

These could be things like swings, slides, climbing frames and activity trails which are all common in children’s play areas. The right thickness of bonded mulch would be quantified and applied according to Critical Fall High guidelines of the equipment placed on the playground. We do this to reduce the risk of permanent injuries due to head impacts in case of a fall or a trip.

It will not blow away and it can go onto any surface, with minimum preparation. To increase the performance and longevity of your surfacing we would advise the installation of a formal sub base. It still allows water to drain through to moisturise the soil with prevention of flooding and creation of muddy puddles, allowing the users to enjoy the benefits of the surface all year round, assuming the existing ground is free draining and self-supporting. So initially we were contacted by this primary school who were interested in having a daily mile track fitted on their existing field. We explained what we could offer them, and soon after we were at the location getting to work.

So for those of you who are unaware of what a daily mile track is, it’s essentially a running track built to encourage kids to complete a mile every day during playtime. Schools love this initiative as it’s helping to improve their pupils fitness on a brilliant new facility.

So here at Soft Surfaces we’ve been building these tracks nationwide for years now, and the surface type we opted for for this actual install was rubber mulch.

This work was carried out at this play area, which wanted to have a surface fitted that would give the appearance of natural grass whilst being able to be used all year round.

They also enquired about having a surface fitted as a tree surround, again, to give a natural appearance without the traditional maintenance required.

So for their play area, we opted to fit a synthetic turf around their existing play equipment. The quality of artificial grass we install ensures that a natural look and feel remains, whilst enabling those using the facility to access it all year round, removing the need for cutting and traditional upkeep.

At Soft Surfaces, we’ve been fitting and maintaining artificial grass nationwide for over 20 years now, and we have teams scattered across the country, saving clients money in travel costs.

So for this job the client got in touch with us looking for a new surface to surround their park bench and wanted something that looked natural without the typical maintenance needed. We explained the rubber mulch we could offer and very shortly after got to work installing.

So rubber mulch is a surface type consisting of recycled rubber chippings, coloured and blended together to create a natural-looking surface.

Rubber mulch has many benefits, the first of which is the fact that despite giving off this natural appearance, rubber mulch is largely maintenance-free. Occasional brushing off of the surface is all that’s required for rubber mulch, which is perfect for those wanting that natural look but without the added effort.

In addition to this, rubber mulch is a very safe surface for those walking on it due to its rubber qualities, which ensures it absorbs falls and trips really well. It’s also simply a great surface to walk on, giving nice feedback underfoot.

So for this job, our client was a school looking to have a running track fitted onto their existing field.

Here at Soft Surfaces, we have over 20 years of experience building running tracks across the country, and for this job it was agreed that a daily mile track would be perfect for their needs.

Daily mile tracks are a relatively new initiative that encourages children to run a mile a day on the facility, promoting health and fitness amongst young people in the UK.

So we carried out this work at Suffolk Hospital, who contacted us regarding having a new outdoor safety flooring fitted at their facility.

They wanted something perfectly suited to the British outdoors, whilst preserving a natural look for the area.

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Rubber Playground and Artificial Grass Surfacing in Middlesborough, Yorkshire.

So our team were contacted by this company who were looking to have surfacing fitted that was ideal for their outdoor space.

They explained specifically that they were keen on having a new flooring for their outdoor play area, as well as artificial grass fitted to give the appearance of a natural look. We broke down the options we could provide, and were on-site installing soon after.

So for the playground flooring, we fitted, we opted to go for an EPDM rubber wetpour surface. This flooring type is absolutely perfect for outdoor play areas, as its spongy rubber qualities actually soak up the rain making it a porous system.

Also, wetpour is one of the safest surface types on the market, meeting the critical fall height requirements necessary for UK playgrounds and offering that all-important peace of mind for playground owners.

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Rubber Playground Flooring With Artificial Grass in Worthing, West Sussex.

So this small nursery had an outdoor space that they were looking to use as an outdoor play area, and were looking for both a safety surface for the youngsters, but also an artificial grass to provide a natural look.

They got in touch with us, and we proceeded to show the client all of the options they had available. It was then decided that wetpour rubber surfacing would be ideal for their safety surfaces, with a high quality synthetic surfacing fitted alongside.

So for their play area, wetpour was a brilliant choice, largely down to its EPDM rubber material. This material makes wetpour surfacing soft and spongy under foot, and massively reduces the chances of serious injury when playing on this flooring.

Also, because it’s rubber, this flooring is porous and soaks up rain all year round. Again, this makes it ideal as an outdoor surface, particularly here in our country where weather is often unpredictable.
