Block Paving Bricks

Despite being available in a number of colours and being a porous surface type, block paving bricks have some flaws. Since the block paving isn’t one smooth surface, it has gaps in where weeds can grow. Although these weeds and contaminants can be removed with a simple jet wash, over time the sand between the blocks, which hold the bricks in place, will wear away.

This can then result in the surface becoming subject to more weed growth or becoming uneven. This is where the resin bound specification is a much-preferred option. There are no joints or gaps within resin-bound surfacing. This means weeds cannot grow through and jet washing the floor will not cause any damage.

Block paving also tends to need more maintenance than resin-bound surfacing. This is because not only will the floor require cleaning and treatment more often due to weeds growing through, but the gaps between the block-paving may need resealing over time.

00:05 Hi, you guys. This is Don from Soft Surfaces here, and on this video we’re going to be showing you an installation of sudstone resin bound gravel in Glasgow. So here’s the actual surface before the installation.

So this client actually wanted it done on their driveway. As you can see, they had this tile-based system beforehand which wasn’t really suitable for what they needed.

Next up, the sudstone resin ground gravel is actually prepared, so you can see he’s actually preparing the resin there and pouring it onto the mixer, mixing it with the resin rate which will actually be laid onto the surface itself.

So you can see our mixer in play there. And here we are, actually with the resin being installed. So you can see that it’s actually being fit onto the surface there and [inaudible 00:00:38] down by our installers, ready to be basically dry and to be fitted ready. So here’s the actual completed photos of this.

It’s a really, really nice surface. As you can see, it’s a very nice, natural look. It’s much easier to be using as a driveway and it’s a great flat surface to be using any kind of pathway or driveway area, really.

00:05 Hi guys. It’s Dan from Soft Surfaces here. On this video we’re going to be showing you a resin bound driveway install in Childwall, Liverpool. Here are some photos of the actual surface beforehand.

So this was actually going to be installed on a pathway for this one. And now for us actually preparing the surface. So what we do with this is actually we stripped back the surface ready for the resin bound to be fed on top of that.

And now the next step is actually us mixing the resin stone with the resin glue itself to create that resin bound gravel to then be laid onto the actual surface and then screening onto that. So as you can see here, we are screening that on and ready for that to be installed onto the surface and letting that dry.

So now finally once it’s all dry and ready to be used, the completed project looks like this. It looks really, really great. Really nice natural finish. It’s an extremely customisable surface type.

There’s two with many different colours and specifications available, making it perfect places like driveways, pathways, and obviously great for wheelchair access. It’s a very smooth surface as well.

When installing a resin bonded gravel specification, it is crucial the existing surface is dry and clean. It should be durable enough to withstand the new resin bonded gravel specification that you apply. This surface is a scatter system that we apply by hand. As this is a bound aggregate you don’t have to worry about loose stone becoming an issue or leading to a lot of maintenance requirements.

Resin Bonded Spec

One main advantage of a resin-bonded gravel specification is that these surfaces are incredibly durable, allowing for regular use of the flooring without having to worry about a lot of maintenance. This aggregate should only be installed on concrete or tarmacadam bases and is done so by applying the layer of resin to the flooring, followed by scattering the loose stone onto the surface. This will then gel together over time using an acrylic mixture, leaving you with strong and durable paving for paths, driveways car parks and commercial attractions.
