Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Day Care Playground Safety Flooring in Stoke, Staffordshire.
So for this installation, the day care owners got in contact with us looking to transform their small outdoor area into an educational play area for the children. We ran through the surface types we could fit for them, and soon after we agreed that EPDM wetpour would be perfect.
So wetpour is a spongy rubber flooring that is very popular in play areas throughout the UK. This is a surface type we’re proud to be market leaders for, and it offers the following benefits:
Firstly, with wetpour being made of rubber, this surfacing is a wonderful safety choice for play areas due to it’s ability to absorb falls and trips so well.
Secondly, rubber wetpour also absorbs the rain fantastically during winter, as it’s a porous system. This makes it ideal here in Britain.
And finally, wetpour is hugely customisable. From a massive range of colours to choose from to a seemingly endless list of graphics to fit, you have the ability to make your wetpour playground your own.
Here at Soft Surfaces we’re happy to say that we’re market leaders in this field, and have been installing and maintaining wetpour playground surfaces nationwide for over two decades now.
There’s no job across the country that’s too big or too small for us to work on, so if having this flooring type fitted is something you’re interested in, please feel free to get in touch with us.
You’ll be able to see now from the completed photos that the works have been fully carried out, and has really helped make their area come to life. The client was truly amazed at the work we did.

If you’re more interested in an athletics facility but also want to play tennis and netball we can install the polymeric surface. This is a rubber court type which is durable and extremely porous allowing for usage all year round. The MUGA court spec for each project can vary massively depending on your requirements and budget.

This creates stability and ensures a smooth and even foundation for the rest of your court or pitch.
Our team can offer a number of designs and specifications and will be more than happy to provide more information on the various options we have available, so please do not hesitate to get in touch for details.
Multi Sport Facility Designs
We offer a wide variety of different accessories and features you can approve for your multi sport facility designs. If you want to use your facility throughout the winter months we can install a range of professional sports floodlighting. These outdoor lights will also ensure that the facility can be used outside of daylight hours.
Being able to use the area at more times of the day means that you can rent out the surface as an extra form of revenue. As specialist contractors we also supply an extensive range of rebound fencing. We offer these to protect the area from trespassing or vandalism. It also helps to make sure you don’t lose any balls or equipment.
As well as these additional installations, we can also apply anti slip coloured paint coatings to the macadam and polymeric court surfaces in a selection of designs. The acrylic paint offers better slip resistance to improve performance and safety. We’re able to apply different colour line markings for use with a number of sports and activities. The multi sport facility designs will vary depending on the budget you set out. We want to make sure that all of our clients can have full control over the designs and MUGA court specifications to suit their perfect facility.
MUGA Specification Case Study
This MUGA specification case study video below shows our team creating a Multisport synthetic MUGA pitch from an existing macadam surface. This is a popular flooring type for multi use facilities as it’s durable and versatile enough for many different sporting activities.
This is a specification which we commonly install at primary and secondary schools. It offers a diverse playing surface as well as being comfortable for the kids to run around on. It’s also soft enough to provide cushioning against injuries in the event of trips or falls. You can use these facilities to play a number of popular sports such as:
Football
Tennis
Netball
Basketball
PE Games
We’d generally recommend this flooring type if you want a diverse facility to use for many sports. We can also tailor the design with different colours and shapes applied to mark out the area.

We have recently constructed a new synthetic 3G sports pitch at St Peters, Orrell. The works involved ripping out and removal of existing synthetic turf sports surfaces, new engineered sub base installed, an elastic in situ rubber shockpad and then new 3rd generation synthetic grass surfacing.
3G Sports Pitch Installation
The first stage of the synthetic sport surface construction was to remove the existing turf carpet which had become worn out and unsuitable for use. The ground was then excavated and an engineered macadam sub base was installed to provide an even foundation for the new 3G sports pitch carpet to be laid onto. Once the base layer had been put down, an in situ rubber shockpad was installed to provide support for players’ joints and to prevent injury.
The next part of our installation process was laying down the 3G pitch synthetic carpet on top of the rubber shockpad. When a 3G synthetic turf is installed, a layer of rubber infill particles is added within the synthetic turf fibres.
This rubber infill helps to keep the artificial grass carpet upright and gives natural playing characteristics for football and rugby. The 3G sport surfacing should be looked after through a regular maintenance scheme which includes removal of dirt and debris and drag brushing to redistribute the rubber infill.
After the surfacing installation was complete, the next stage of the project was adding the extra equipment and accessories which were specified by the client. These additional features included rebound fencing, sport floodlighting, football nets and sport surface line markings. Having these features installed meant that the new 3G sport field construction provided a multi use, all weather facility which could be used in the evenings to generate extra revenue for the organisation.
To see the installation process in more detail, please watch this video showing the full synthetic surface construction from start to finish:
What is 3G Manufactured Turf?
3G manufactured turf is a wonderful replacement to all-natural grass for a sport pitch. By creating a 3G sport pitch your facility will match UK accreditations of controlling organisation like FIFA, FA, IRB, RFU and also RFL. The synthetic turf can vary in pile size from 32mm, which is mostly intended for hockey surfaces, to sixty millimeters which is used for rugby.
Football field tend to use forty millimeters Third generation grass and this is frequently fitted on top of a shockpad to really make the surface secure. We install a porous sub base when we have dug out the current surfacing. There’s two main types of sub base which is often fitted for a 3G facility: engineered and dynamic. An engineered sub base features compressed natural stone and then macadam above, making a firm foundation for a shockpad to get installed.
This surfacing is infilled with rubber pieces and silica sand infill on a 3rd generation imitation surface. Because of infill, the surface’s performance qualities are increased.
3G Pitch Construction
The 3G sports pitch construction consists of rubber granules within. The athletes joints are secured with the aid of the rubberized granules – this stops damages to the people using the field. The turf fibers may also be kept up-right, because of the infill; this really makes the surface more comfortable and offers the individuals a far greater experience with the surface.
The rates for a field installed will differ based upon a number of aspects including field sizes, specific location in addition to special features. In the UK, Third generation all-weather field are very popular. 3rd generation imitation grass can be used for competitive fixtures, because games don’t have to be cancelled resulting from poor weather conditions since the artificial turf generates an all-weather pitch. This could also enable physical education classes to carry on as standard.
Due to the porosity of the facility, the area will not become flooded after a major problem of rainwater enabling institutions for example colleges to gain. Leisure clubs and sports teams also can use 3G pitches as line markings can be applied to build expert facilities allowing for numerous sports activities to be played out. Considering that the sport facilities can be utilized during any conditions, sports clubs and recreational centres will not lose earnings.
Many businesses will be able to produce extra revenue by hiring out their 3rd generation facility after working hours. Should you wish to include extra features including rebound fences, lighting and goal recesses we are able to aid accommodating these to your funds and requirements.
There exists a variety of suppliers that we’re able to buy the man made turf from such as Playrite, Lano Sports and also Rhino Turf. We try to ensure that our clients obtain the best value for your money; this is possible since our distributors create requirements that fulfill with a selection of regulating body certifications. For information regarding sports surface maintenance, please click here.
The multi directional lano sports interplay two tone yarn has great coverage making the all weather pitch look green as opposed to standard third generation surfacing which can look black because of the rubber infill installed.
As it is designed in this way it helps the ball roll properties which was always limited for hockey and this is why this latest innovation is a great investment to schools, leisure centres and sports clubs because you have a synthetic grass pitch ideal for two sports.
The lano sports interplay synthetic turf carpet costs are reasonable and for further details on the prices, q26 specification details and budget costs please fill in the contact form where we can assist you with your enquiry.
The crimped monotape lano sport artificial yarn is 100% polyethylene and the colour of the carpet is light green and dark green. For more information, please complete our contact form.

Basketball is a very popular sport in schools, colleges and leisure centres across the UK. This means there is a high demand for top quality outdoor basketball court facilities to play the sport. But you don’t have to have a court built just for basketball. You can install a multi use games area where a number of different sports can be played, including netball and tennis.
Specifications For an Outdoor Basketball Court
A modern-day outdoor basketball facility has standard sizes and dimensions of 28m x 15m. However, depending on the level or standard of sport that you wish to play, we can adapt this. We’ll customise the specification to suit many sizes of MUGA outdoor basketball courts. It all depends on budget, costs and size/location.
Basketball is a sport that you can play on various types of surfaces. The most common types are asphalt tarmacadam and EPDM rubber crumb polymeric/tartan surfaces. These surfaces can all have anti slip sports colour coatings and line markings applied in different colours so a number of different sports can be played on the same surface, including basketball, tennis and netball.
We commonly install these facilities at various locations in the UK. There are many schools and clubs with worn out sports courts which need updating. Our team can do this by thoroughly cleaning the existing area to remove dirt. We’ll then apply an anti-slip coating with fresh line markings in colours of your choice.
All Weather Sports Surfaces
Both macadam and polymeric surfaces are porous so they allow rainwater to drain through them. All of our all weather MUGA surfaces are porous to allow for good water drainage, preventing flooding and waterlogging which can cause damage to the surface and make it unsafe for people to use.
The good drainage characteristics of these sports surfaces mean they are usable in all weather conditions and at all times of the year. This is a great quality, especially in schools and colleges.
This video below shows the whole process of installing a polymeric basketball court in Manchester. Our team completed the groundworks, macadam base installation and applied the rubber EPDM surfacing on top.

When installing a new sports facility, the artificial grass football pitch costs can vary due to a number of factors; often one of the biggest variables is the size and dimensions of the surface. The costs to install an artificial grass all weather football pitch is largely down to the size of the area to be covered, generally the bigger the area the higher the cost.
For example a full size synthetic turf football pitch will cost more to surface with artificial grass than a small sided football facility used to host evening 5-a-side, 6v6 and 7 a side leagues. Make sure you speak to one of our experts today by filling in our enquiry form to find out more about the costs and designs of synthetic football pitches.
Other factors that can determine the price of the synthetic turf used to surface all weather football pitches is the specification of artificial grass. Things to look out for that determine the quality and specification of grass are the pile height (40mm, 50mm, 60mm), pile weight, type of synthetic fibres (monofilament or fibrillated) and backing of the artificial grass (stitch rate).
The best quality of artificial grass has a FIFA 2* accreditation whilst there are other high accreditations are available such as FIFA 1* and IATS. Synthetic turf with these accreditations (FIFA 2*, FIFA 1* and IATS) usually come at a higher price than others but the quality is well represented in the 3G football pitch cost.
3G astroturf surfacing is the latest technology of artificial turf and is the perfect synthetic surface for football. Previously 2G surfacing was used to surface artificial grass football pitches but its playing characteristics were not well suited for football. 2G surfacing is now more commonly used for synthetic hockey pitches; however some establishments that host both hockey and football may choose to install a 2G carpet. As well as offering prices on 3G artificial grass surfacing we can also provide you with costs on 2G synthetic turf surfaces. Feel free to get in touch with us for more information on our products and services with regards to synthetic football pitch facilities.
3G synthetic turf can be used to surface sports pitches of various sizes at many different organisations. To be able to receive a quote for the artificial grass football pitch costs it is important know the size and dimensions of the pitch as this has the biggest bearing on costs. The larger the area the more the total scheme value will cost but the lower the m2 price will be. We would advise that you decide on an approximate budget for the work so we can offer a quote on the synthetic soccer pitch prices which suits your requirements and gives you a facility that you are happy with.
3G Facility Sports Equipment
Other items that have an impact on the synthetic soccer pitch prices are the line markings. The synthetic turf football line markings can be cut in or sprayed on, cut in line markings usually come at higher price as they are permanent and cannot wear even if the 3G football turf has high levels of usage. Sprayed on line markings usually come at a lower cost but these are a more temporary measure as they can wear in areas of high use.
We can also offer other features to help you make the most of your synthetic sports pitch; these include secure sports fencing and floodlights which both come in a range of designs, heights and specifications to suit you. By installing these extras you can transform your sports pitch into a multi-use facility which can be used by other clubs and teams after hours to help generate more revenue.
To see the full construction process of a synthetic turf sports pitch, watch the video below which shows one of our recent projects at a school:

Our professional staff will be able to give you advice on all aspects of the project including surface types, construction, designs and extra features like floodlighting and fences.
There are two main types of resin gravel surfacing available for outdoor areas.
These options are resin bonded and resin bound stone systems.
But what is the difference between resin bound and resin bonded gravel?
Resin bonded gravel is created from a scatter system where glue is applied to the base surface. The stone aggregate is scattered across the base, leaving a textured finish once bonded.
Resin bound gravel is a permeable system created by mixing the chosen stone with a specialised glue and applying it to create a smooth surface.
With the scattered stone effect, this system gives the appearance of loose gravel without the hassle of losing stones and having to carry out regular upkeep.
Many homeowners choose to have the bonded gravel design installed for driveways where the surface is on a slope. This is because the texture of the finish provides more grip and anti-slip qualities, making it a safe option for vehicles and pedestrians.
However, because we scatter the stones onto a layer of glue on top of the base surface, this specification is non-porous.
A range of natural resin bonded stone design choices are available for this type of flooring so you can create a customised loose stone look for your project.
We will help you choose a design which suits your budget and fits in with any other outdoor surfaces in the surrounding space.
Where Is Resin Bonded Stone Used?
Popular uses for this type of paving include domestic driveways, gardens, walkways and public attractions. These are generally places where loose stones are not desirable.
The resin bonded stone design is not ideal for schools or any areas which are predominantly used by children due to the abrasive qualities of the surface which could cause an injury if a child fell over.
The bonded design is scattered to provide a textured, anti-slip finish.
This is a perfect option for sloping driveways or paths as both vehicles and pedestrians can use it safely.
A range of natural colour stones is ideal for creating a unique design.
The scatter system installation gives the appearance of loose gravel, but with my fewer maintenance requirements.
The bonded gravel surface type is a non-porous specification.
Typically installed to a depth of 4mm.
We can provide a range of designs for bonded gravel paths to suit a range of areas. If you are thinking of having a resin bonded paving surface at your home or public facility, please contact our team.
Simply use the enquiry box on this page to get in touch. We’d be happy to offer you some advice about costs for this work along with some product sheets and more information.
This is a decorative surface type which can be supplied in a wide range of natural stones. It’s also referred to as resin bound aggregate.
Generally this sort of paving installation would be done using a macadam sub-base. This provides the best durable, porous qualities.
This gravel flooring is laid in different areas, like drives and swimming pool surrounds where loose stones are not wanted.
As a result of its smooth textured finish, the resin bound gravel floor is ideal for use with wheelchairs, and the permeable qualities help reduce water build-up.
This also makes the bound specification compliant with SuDS (Sustainable Urban Drainage Systems) as it helps to reduce flooding in built-up urban areas.
Key Features
The resin-bound aggregates specification is laid to provide a smooth and seamless finish.
This paving type is porous due to the gaps in between the stones, making it SuDS compliant.
We can install at a range of depths varying from 12mm-24mm for resin bound pathways and drives.
Comes in a variety of natural and decorative colour choices with unique colour blends.
Leaves an attractive appearance which requires little maintenance and upkeep (no loose stones).
Hand laid by specialist installers using a trowel to ensure a good quality end result.
As you can see there is a significant difference in resin bound and bonded stone surfaces.
Each one has its own advantages depending on the nature of your project. Therefore it’s a good idea to research the different specifications. If you would like some more detailed product sheets, we will be happy to send these over.
Please feel free to get in touch with us through the contact form if you would like some more information on resin bound and resin bonded surfacing.
We can provide details of prices for both resin bound and bonded paving systems.
