Tennis Court Refurbishment in Lancashire Case Study

The process of tennis courts refurbishment is often done in the UK where the sports surface has become worn out, damaged or dirty as a result of overuse and a lack of proper care. We recently completed a project to renovate an existing macadam tennis surface which could not be used as it had become heavily contaminated with moss and algae. This lead to the surfacing having problems with drainage as water couldn’t soak through the porous layers of the court.

Contaminated MUGA Surface Cleaning

In order to get this sports court back to a playable standard and make it safe to use, an extensive tennis courts refurbishment was needed. We began this process by giving the existing macadam surfacing a thorough clean using a pressure washer to blast the moss, algae and debris off the court. A brush was then used to clear away any dirt or natural matter which was still left on the surface to prevent it from getting stuck back in the pores of the macadam and stopping the new paint coating from sticking properly. Brushing the surface of your tennis court is something that should be done on a regular basis to make sure that litter, leaves, mud and other natural matter don’t get stuck to the flooring and prevent water from draining away.

Once the old surface had been properly cleaned and all of the debris removed, the next stage of this Lancashire tennis courts refurbishment was to add a fresh new coating of anti slip acrylic paint. This particular client chose to have the main playing area spray-painted in a dark green coloured coating with a light green runoff area around the perimeter. We can apply acrylic paint coatings to sports surfaces in a wide range of different colour options and designs to create a multi use sports facility with a number of purposes. The anti slip properties in the acrylic sports paint are achieved by adding a mixture of sand and aluminium oxide which provide more grip and traction to enhance the safety of the flooring.

Tennis Courts Refurbishment Line Markings

After the main paint application had been done, the next part of the tennis courts refurbishment was to apply new clear line markings for use in training and matches. It’s important to have any sports line markings applied by a professional contractor to ensure that the dimensions are accurate and the lines are good quality and will last a long time. If you have a tennis surface which is going to be used as a multi purpose facility, we can apply numerous sets of line markings for other sports like basketball and netball in contrasting colours.

Talk To Us

The completed tennis courts refurbishment revealed a sports surface with a brand new look which now has its original performance qualities back along with greater anti slip properties. A fresh acrylic paint coating gives the surface a new lease of life and the client was very pleased with their much-improved tennis court surface.

Costs to Build a Compact Athletics Facility

When carrying out a new project, the costs to build a compact athletics facility will depend on a number of factors. A few of these include dimensions, chosen design and your location.

The term ‘compact athletics facility’ refers to recreational running tracks or activity areas that are installed in smaller spaces. These offer a simpler alternative to full-sized athletics facilities. This is often done in urban areas at schools to give a more cost-effective option for children looking to get involved in different sports.

Smaller Athletic Facilities

A range of components can be incorporated into the design of a recreational sports area, choosing these different parts can help cut the costs to build a compact athletics facility. These individual parts could include sprint tracks, long jump pits, high jump areas and jogging circuits. View this post to learn more about the different designs we offer for schools.

By scaling down each of these elements, schools are able to introduce children to a variety of sports from a young age without having to install a full-sized athletics facility. You can incorporate this into PE lessons, break times and extracurricular activities. It can then create a fun environment which also contributes to increased health and activity.

The video below shows the construction of a compact high jump athletics facility at a school. The surfacing was installed using Multisport synthetic turf which is ideal for recreational sports facilities especially when young children are using the area.

We would be happy to offer you some more advice on the costs to build a compact athletics facility. Simply fill in our quick enquiry form to speak to us. These outdoor sports areas can be installed to schools, colleges, leisure centres and other public spaces. They offer a more affordable alternative to full-sized running tracks or other facilities. There are many more benefits of school athletics if you are thinking about having one of these facilities installed, both for physical and mental development.

Athletics Surfacing Installers

We are specialist athletics surfacing installers and can create designs for a range of compact athletics facilities throughout the UK. These areas provide sports tracks for recreational use as they come in smaller sizes. We can install them in school playgrounds or other areas with limited space.

Our professional team often install these types of facilities in a Multisport synthetic turf surface which is perfect for recreational areas and for use by younger children. Some of the designs available could be multi-use long jump pits with all-purpose lanes, sprint tracks and high jump fans. In a lot of cases, a running straight of 40-60 metres will form the focal point of a compact athletics facility. This will often have other features installed around it.

Choosing the Right Design

You could choose a different design if you’re looking to cut the costs to build a compact athletics facility. Therefore we can be flexible on the specification to suit your requirements. You can also incorporate jogging routes into the design; this could consist of a path that flows around the perimeter of the area to make the most of your existing space.

Depending on the people who are going to be using the area, our athletics surfacing installers will be able to advise you on the best design of the athletics area. For example, a primary school might prefer to have a smaller area with soft Multisport turf.

On the other hand, a high school or college could choose a larger facility with polymeric rubber track surfacing. Whatever you choose, we will be able to make it work with your budget. We can also offer numerous different coloured designs so you can customise the final appearance.

Leeds Tennis Court Cleaning and Repainting Surfacing

At Soft Surfaces, we’re a specialist at tennis court cleaning and repairs in Leeds and are able to fit this surface nationwide.

In addition to installations, our team can offer tennis court repair services for existing tennis courts in your area, so if you have a tennis court that needs either cleaning or repainting feel free to get in touch with us today.

For this particular post, we show off one of our tennis court cleaning and repainting carried out in Leeds.

Below you can see the specific information for this job, as well as the video transcript describing the job in detail.

As always, if you are interested in any of our tennis court repairs and cleaning services we offer throughout Leeds or the entire West Yorkshire area, feel free to get in touch with us for a free, no obligation quote today.

One of our most popular services throughout the summer is tennis court cleaning and repainting. This is carried out on hard surfaces such as macadam and polymeric rubber which have become dirty or contaminated.

When leaves, litter and other dirt fall onto the tennis court they can stick. This blocks up the porous layers of the surface makes it hold water. If you don’t apply correct maintenance, the blockages can cause further problems as water will be unable to drain away.

The build-up of dirty water leads to contamination from moss and algae which can make the surface slippery and only increases the drainage problems.

Tennis Court Cleaning and Repainting

Our specialist installers recently completed a tennis court cleaning and repainting project at a facility in Leeds. The macadam court surface had become dirty and worn out due to a lack of proactive sports court maintenance over time. This meant that the tennis facility was unsuitable for use as it was slippery and the line markings had faded.

We began the tennis court cleaning process by jet washing the macadam surface. For this, our team use a specialist solution to remove the dirt and contaminants. For this process, the pressure washer is applied to the court at an angle to ensure all sides of the macadam stones are thoroughly cleaned.

When completing a tennis court cleaning and repainting job, it is vital to get the existing surface completely clean before applying any new paint. This is very important because if any moss or dirt is on the flooring when we apply the colour coating, the paint will stick to this debris rather than the court surface itself. Check out this post if you are unsure whether your court needs a resurface or just a simple clean and paint.

When the work is initially complete this might not be noticeable. However, over time when the dirt comes off the surface, the paint will peel off as well. You will then have a tennis court that has an uneven and patchy appearance. This is why our specialist team always carry out thorough cleaning and maintenance before the repainting begins.

Sports Surface Painting

Once the cleaning process was complete, our installers could then move on to the professional tennis court repainting. This particular client in Leeds chose to have their macadam tennis court surface painted in purple and green with white line-markings.

The main playing area of the court was painted in purple and the outer runoff area was painted in green. We use a specialist anti-slip acrylic paint specification which holds a mixture of sand and aluminium oxide to create greater traction on the surface.

This enhances the performance qualities due to the added slip resistance, making for a more comfortable and enjoyable experience for players. Clear line markings were also applied to meet accurate tennis court dimensions which ensures the facility can be used in competitive matches and events.

Talk To Us

As specialist contractors, we offer a premium sports painting service. This includes two coats of anti-slip acrylic paint to give the most long-lasting and durable finish. Once this project was complete, the final result was a huge improvement from the existing tennis court surface. Both the appearance and the playing qualities are now much better. The client can enjoy their tennis court for recreational use and matches throughout the year.

The video below shows the full process of tennis court cleaning and repainting for this project in Leeds:

The final court now offers much better playing qualities and has a vibrant design. This is one of many similar projects that we complete each year for domestic clients as well as schools and clubs. It’s important to carry out regular maintenance of these facilities to ensure they stay safe throughout the year.

Many of our clients choose to apply additional line markings to the area for more sports. This turns the facility into a multi-use games area for activities like basketball and netball as well.

We have plenty of experience as sports and play surfacing contractors with projects throughout the UK. Top 3 Safety Surfaces for Playgrounds

Since health and safety standards have become more and more important throughout the UK, you will find that it is vital to ensure your school or nursery playground has some sort of safety surfacing installed to keep the children using the facility safe in the event they fall off equipment. The primary goal should be to make certain that the kids won’t hurt themselves if they fall over. This is why you need to think about installing safety surfacing.

So, which safety flooring type should you have installed? It can be difficult to choose which safety surfacing to install to keep the kids safe, since there are many options to choose from. We have created a list of the top 3 safety surfaces for playgrounds which we install all over the United Kingdom to ensure children remain safe.

Find Out More

Wet Pour Surfacing

One of the best safety surfaces to install in a school or nursery playground is wet pour rubber flooring. Wetpour consists of EPDM rubber granules which we mix with a specialist binder. We then screed it onto a concrete, stone or macadam sub base to create a smooth even layer. Wetpour is available in a number of different colours and can also have graphic inserts installed to create a fun play area for young people.

Some of the popular colours include:

  • Red
  • Blue
  • Green
  • Yellow
  • Purple
  • Pink

There are also many other popular wetpour colours and mixtures which we also supply depending on the design you would like. Do bear in mind that some colours come at a higher price point than others, and standard black is always our cheapest option.

One great thing about wet pour surfacing is that we could alter the depth of the flooring to meet specific Critical Fall Heights. If high playground equipment is present on the area, we might install the wetpour much thicker to absorb the impact, in the event a child falls off the equipment.

If you want to find out about the installation process, please have a look at this video below. It shows one of the wetpour installations we have carried out within the UK:

Another great thing about wetpour surfacing is that it requires very little maintenance. In the event the flooring suffers damage due to vandalism, rips or perimeter shrinkage, you can fix the area easily with the help of a professional team – or even DIY repair kits. In some cases, you could cut the wet pour into a particular shape and install a different colour there to make exciting graphics for children to play on.

Contact Our Team

EPDM wet pour rubber is a great surface type and has a fantastic impact absorbing properties. If you wish to find out the costs of installing this type of rubberised flooring, please visit this page or get in touch with our team using the enquiry form available.

Rubber Playground Mulch

The second play surface on our list of the top 3 safety surfaces for playgrounds is rubber mulch. Rubber mulch is basically bonded play bark, which offers impact absorbing properties to create a safer surface for children to play on.

This type of surfacing is ideal for woodlands areas and playgrounds which become muddy in wet conditions. Rubberised playground mulch offers a more natural look, yet can still keep children safe when using playground equipment and timber trails.

Just like wetpour, the mulch is available in different depths to meet up with various CFHs. The purpose of this flooring is to create a natural looking area which is safe for young children to play on. Rubber mulch is available in different colours too. Brown and green are the more popular shades to choose, as these look the most natural.

Bonded rubberised shred is basically loose rubberised chippings that have been bound together using resin. There are many advantages of resin bound rubber mulch, which includes minimal maintenance work and preparation needed during the installation. Since we can lay rubber shred on most surface types, the cost to install this surfacing is reasonably low.

Artificial Grass Play Area

The last of our three surfaces which you could use for safety play-areas is artificial grass. When installing synthetic turf for nurseries and schools, you can have the option of a shockpad. We can install shockpads beneath the artificial grass to make a more impact absorbing surface; this makes the flooring a lot safer in the event children fall over.

Artificial grass play areas are a great option if you are looking for a more natural appearance. There are a number of different synthetic turf specifications available to ensure you receive exactly what you are looking for. Synthetic grass can come with different pile heights to suit the client’s needs; you will find that some pile heights make the surface look more natural when compared to others.

Playground Safety Flooring

All of these surfaces are completely porous, which gives them a huge advantage over natural surfaces like grass. These could become muddy and waterlogged in wet conditions. The equipment you have within the area and how you’ll use it will determine which surface is best for your playground.

As an example, if you are looking for a natural woodlands appearance, wet pour would not be an option. We can discuss the different surfaces in more detail if necessary and we can offer our professional opinion along with details on costs. To find out more regarding playground safety flooring, please get in touch using the enquiry form presented on this page.

If you wish to find out more about the various surfaces that we install for playgrounds, please get in touch. We would be more than happy to provide you with more information on the best surfaces for play areas. We’ll also give information on which are the most safe for young children.

School Athletics Track Designs

Out of all sporting activities, none are as famous as athletics. Due to the wide variety of sports that are offered through it, a lot of people really enjoy taking part in it. However, when it comes to it, you will need a sprinting track and a long jump runway to take part in these activities fully and properly.

There are plenty of school athletics track designs available and you can fully customise the surfacing to suit your requirements and budget.

Talk To Us

Benefits of Athletics in Schools

Athletics is seen by a lot of people as one of the most active areas of sport due to the range of different activities included. Ranging from long jump to sprint, athletics offers pupils a chance to work out a wide variety of muscles compared to other sports which mainly focus on one section.

Not only do pupils benefit from the wide variety of activities it offers, but so do the schools. With athletics facilities, all you need is lanes to do most of the running events and a jump track to do the jumping events.

Types of Surfacing for an Athletic Facility

When it comes to getting an athletic track surfaced, there are two main different surfaces you can choose from. These are either EPDM Polymeric Rubber or Needlepunch Synthetic Carpet.

EPDM Polymeric Rubber is used by many high schools, colleges and clubs as it is a lot more professional quality for sprint tracks and long jump runways. The surface is made up of rubber granules which are mixed in with a binder. After this, the mixture is then spread out on top of a macadam sub base.

In addition to this, there is a range of colour options that you can choose from to make the track more personalised if desired. Line markings can also be spray painted on to the track for each different athletics event, meaning it can be used for multiple events without the hassle of having to get new tracks installed.

Needlepunch Synthetic Carpet is a lot more popular with primary schools due to it having a softer and more impact absorbing texture than EPDM. This surface is an artificial turf product which is fibre bonded with a tight yarn, whilst having a layer of sand installed within the pile for stability. It’s also used for activity flooring, so check out this page for more details on that.

This is perfect for recreational sports facilities as kids will most likely take a few tumbles when taking part in these types of sports. It can also come in a range of bright colours, with the most popular selection being rainbow due to how quickly it can get the children’s attention.

Both surfaces are used for different groups but they both have a lot of things in common. They’re both high quality, both take around the same amount of time to install and both allow for years of athletic sports to be carried out on them.

Primary School Athletics Games

In primary school, it can be a lot harder to get children interested in sports as they would rather be left to their own minds. However, athletic tracks give children a sense of interest and wonder. It keeps them interested since most of them would have never seen such a thing. Have a look at this post to see the benefits of promoting athletics sports at your school.

Another reason is that the range of sports you can do on these facilities is phenomenal. Ranging from relay races which can build on teamwork skills to marathons which will improve the stamina and determination of a kid. It’s very rare for most sports to be able to keep the interest of the child whilst also giving them a lot of health benefits.

The best bit about a school athletics track is the physical expression it allows. With kids having a lot of energy and wanting to express it, classrooms can become a nightmare if these children don’t get a chance to fully let loose and get rid of the energy. Athletics is a physically intensive activity which will make sure that children who take part get that chance to express their energy.

By doing this, children will feel a lot happier and more exhausted from getting that chance and in lessons, they won’t be as energetic and giddy. This gives teachers a well-deserved break as well and overall, creates a great learning environment for children to learn in compared to if these kids still had all their energy built up.

Running Track Surface Specifications

When it comes to getting a running track or a long jump runway, you’ll need to supply us with the specifications of the facility you want. We will need measurements of the area where you want to install, so we know if the installation is possible. Alongside this, we will also want to know what type of surface you want to have installed. These things all affect the cost of the athletics surface so it’s important that we know as many details as possible.

This video shows one of our projects where our team installed a long jump surface at a school in Denbigh:

We can install these facilities in a range of levels, sizes and shapes so by telling us these factors as well, we can get a better image of the final product you have in mind. There are also compact athletic facilities available if you only have limited outdoor space. Regardless of how big the track is, you will also need to carry out regular cleaning.

This cleaning process will stop contaminants from appearing and causing problems with the track itself. We do offer a cleaning service for these tracks as well so feel free to enquire about it. Alongside this, if the area gets damaged, we can also repair them for you and even install a few minor features like landing area covers and removable take-off boards.

Athletics Surfacing Specification Options

If you are looking for the best athletics surfacing specification for your facility, we offer a number of choices. Schools, colleges and sports clubs across the UK are embracing athletics and getting kids into participating in a whole host of different sporting events. Some of these include long jump, triple jump and sprinting.

The popularity of these athletic events means there is a greater demand for top-quality sports facilities, and the athletic facility needs to give great performance qualities as well as being safe. So what sports facility would be the best for your school or organisation? Let’s take a look at some different athletics surfacing specifications.

Contact Us

Athletics Running Tracks

A typical athletics track is made of rubber crumb with a polyurethane binder, and these can come in a range of specifications that are put together in slightly different ways to suit individual requirements and budgets, for example, full EPDM or structural spray polymeric.

These running track facilities can be installed in a range of dimensions to suit the individual size and shape of the area that you have available. We can also apply professional line marking to the surfacing to ensure perfect accuracy when recording race results. Running tracks can be used for a multitude of events from 100m sprinting to more long-distance running races.

Although EPDM rubber is a very popular choice for athletics running tracks, a lot of primary schools have chosen to install Multisport artificial grass athletics surfacing instead. This is a softer surface for younger kids to run on and a great alternative to the traditional hard rubber tracks which are more suited to professional athletes and older children.

For more details on the different athletics surfacing specification options, please get in touch with us today. Just complete the contact box on this page to let us know what you are looking for, and we’ll reply back as soon as we can. You can also check out this page for more details on the most common designs for schools.

Long Jump and Triple Jump

Long jump and triple jump are great athletic events for kids to get into as they are a bit more interesting than just the traditional running events. Runway surfacing for these events can be constructed by sport surfacing contractors from the same materials as running tracks (EPDM rubber or Multisport artificial grass). They can also come in different dimensions and specifications depending on the requirements of your organisation.

It is also important to have a good quality sandpit installed with your long-jump runway surface to keep it as safe as possible, this will provide a soft area for the athlete to land on once they have completed their jump.

You could also improve the safety of your athletics facility by installing long jump and triple jump sand pit rubber safety edges which provide more absorption of impact from trips or falls than the traditional precast concrete (PCC) edges. These extra safety precautions are highly recommended, in particular for facilities where younger children are going to be taking part in events.

Compact Athletics Facilities

A number of clubs in addition to academic institutions have begun to get more cost-effective features constructed for sports and athletics. Many schools and colleges are finding it difficult to renew their sports facilities for a number of events, meaning that youngsters are unable to take part in these types of sports.

This may be due to a limited spending budget or not a sufficient amount of outdoor space for the institution to build on. The athletics surfacing specification may be changed to suit distinct spending budgets and requirements. FUNdamental skills may also be developed with the help of these compact activities, since children could enhance their running, throwing and even jumping.

School Sports Provision

By setting up different athletics facilities, youngsters can take part in numerous activities for a more diverse experience. Several of the widely chosen facilities include things like shuttle running tracks, discus areas and also jogging tracks. You can create multiple activity areas by building a single track; this can be utilised for long jump, relay races, hurdles and many more.

These then promote health and activity for children by allowing them to take part in many different events. In schools that can’t have a full-sized track, this makes a fantastic alternative that is more affordable and takes up a lot less room. If someone completely enjoys performing a certain activity just like triple jump or throwing, then they could advance to specialist clubs within the United Kingdom. An important deficiency in existing athletics provision is a lack of developing facilities for beginners and young people at the first stages of the athlete enhancement model. Many experts recommend that these sporting activities need to be available for kids from as small as primary school Key Stage 1 and up to high school.

A new athletics model has been made by UKA, allowing small children to gain access to these areas. This gives a cost-effective, versatile, entry-level option that makes use of pleasing designs and colours meant to attract new participants.

Cost-Effective Designs

For establishments with a low spending budget together with outdoor space, the compact athletics facilities produce an ideal option for training basic FUNdamental skills in a range of sports activities. A number of establishments decide to get long jump runways and high-jump fans within their compact sports facility.

Where there’s a shortage of space, we are able to reduce the size of sports facilities and alter the athletic surfacing specifications. The flexibility of the style of smaller facilities ensures that they are related to a wide range of situations. Colleges, universities, primary schools and also secondary schools may set up these to complement existing sport and play provisions.

By participating in different sports and athletics activities, young people from Key Stage one to Key Stage four all can build up learning and fitness abilities. Many more children will want to take part in the new sporting activities if there is top quality and appealing facility accessible for them to utilize.

If a school or college is seeking a much more cost-effective beginners level product, the compact facilities are fantastic for decreasing expenses in the event you only need a recreational space. Compact features help introduce the FUNdamentals of these sports. Therefore children can build on primary skills of movement and also physical activity.

Tennis Court Maintenance – Deep Clean and Recolouring

If you have a tennis court it’s important to keep it properly looked after, whether it’s for recreational use or competitive matches. Having an appropriate tennis court maintenance and surface cleaning schedule will help you to make sure the court looks great and is both safe and suitable for use by players. We recently did a thorough deep cleaning and recolouring process to an existing macadam tennis court in Manchester which had suffered a lot of damage and contamination from moss and algae.

Tennis Court Maintenance Jet Wash

As you can see from the picture above, this particular tennis court facility was in very bad condition and had moss growing all over the surface. This made the sports court unsuitable for use as is was slippery and the blocked pores in the macadam meant that water couldn’t drain away so the surface became flooded in wet weather. The first process of this tennis court maintenance job was to jet wash the surface with a specialist cleaning agent to clear away the moss and dirt that had become stuck to the court. This type of cleaning process should only be done by an experienced professional contractor to ensure that no damage is done to the sports court by the high pressure of the water. Once the thoroughly clean was done to the tennis court flooring, the original macadam surface could be seen once again without all of the dirt and moss covering it up.

Tennis Surface Recolouring

When we’d thoroughly cleaned the area using a pressure washing tennis court maintenance method, we could then apply a brand new layer of colour coating paint. This specialist acrylic paint is designed to have anti-slip qualities as it’s mixed with a combination of sand and aluminium oxide to create friction on the sports court surface. Having improved anti-slip characteristics means that the tennis court will be safer for players and also create better playing qualities in matches.

For this project, the client chose to have their tennis court painted with blue acrylic paint on the central court area and green around the outside for the runoff. We then applied new tennis line markings in white to create an accurate scoring marker for competitive matches and training. The completed surface has a vibrant new colour with greatly improved performance qualities which can be enjoyed for a long time with regular proactive maintenance.

Dirty Tennis Court Problems

There are a number of problems that can occur if you don’t look after your tennis court surface properly with regular care and maintenance. For example dirt, litter, leaves and other decaying organic matter can get stuck within the voids and pores of the open textured macadam surface and stop water from draining through. This means that any water will then sit on top of the tennis court surface and make it waterlogged and slippery.

If this problem continues for a long time, moss and algae can start to grow which affects the appearance of the sports facility as well as making it even more slippery and potentially dangerous for anyone who uses it. It can be difficult to know if your sports court needs resurfacing or cleaning, but our team can advise you on the best solutions.

If your tennis court is holding water, not performing well or has moss growing on the surface, please get in touch with us so we can offer you the best type of tennis court maintenance to fix the problem. Flooded Hockey Pitch Sand Infill Cleaning

Many hockey pitches in the UK are made using sand-filled synthetic grass surfacing, and it’s a good idea to carry out regular hockey pitch sand infill cleaning to help keep the surface in top condition. The 2G sand filled sports pitches are installed in an artificial grass carpet with a layer of silica sand put between the fibres to help the grass stand up and create natural playing qualities. Without correct proactive maintenance, these 2G sports surfaces can become flooded and lose their playability and safety characteristics.

Flooded Synthetic Sports Surface

Over time, sand-filled hockey pitch surfaces can lose their porosity and become waterlogged if they aren’t looked after properly. When a dead organic matter like plants and leaves are allowed to sit on the artificial grass surface they can break down and get stuck within the carpet pile, contaminating the sand infill. This means that the pores within the synthetic turf pitch system become blocked. When these pores get blocked up, the sand filled pitch loses its permeability so water can’t drain through it anymore and it sits on the surface instead, making the pitch waterlogged and unsafe for use. If this problem isn’t tackled with reactive maintenance as soon as possible, it can cause damage to the turf carpet and lead to expensive resurfacing work.

It’s important to carry out regular sand contamination testing to assess whether hockey pitch sand infill cleaning is required to get rid of dirt and contaminants such as silt, mud and leaves. These tests involve extracting samples of the sand infill and mixing them with water and a dispersal agent, this then shows how much contamination is present in the infill layer. Once the test has been carried out, a suitable maintenance plan can be put in place to prevent or fix the problems of flooded hockey pitch surfacing.

In this video you can see our team completing a full cleaning and rejuvenation process for a contaminated sports surface:

Hockey Pitch Sand Infill Cleaning

Depending on the conditions of the 2G sports pitch and how contaminated the sand has become, there are different methods of flooded sport surface cleaning which can be done to remove the contamination. The first is a deep clean, this involves lifting the sand out of the pitch with a machine, putting it through a filtering process to remove any dirt, and then putting the sand back down into the synthetic carpet pile. A flooded hockey pitch sand infill cleaning method that is used for more contaminated pitches is sports surface rejuvenation maintenance. This is done by extracting all of the dirty sand infill and removing it from the pitch completely, a new layer of sand infill will then be put down within the synthetic grass fibres.

Regular Surface Maintenance

To prevent the problems of flooded hockey pitch surfacing, you should also make sure that you do regular proactive maintenance like drag brushing to keep the sand infill evenly spread and prevent contaminants from sitting on the surface. Information on all of the different maintenance methods can be found at our website on http://softsurfaces.co.uk/, as well as details of all of our products.

There are many benefits of artificial hockey pitches that make them a popular choice for schools and clubs.

Where to Buy Silica Sand for Artificial Grass

We would always recommend having a specialist company come out to deal with the maintenance of an artificial grass pitch. While you can buy silica sand yourself, it is advised that you have an expert apply it to the grass surface using the correct machinery and tools. If the sand is not applied in the right way, this can lead to damage and drainage problems on the surface.

Tennis Court Synthetic Turf Cleaning Maintenance

Artificial grass tennis courts are common in the UK and the surfacing can become flooded and contaminated if the correct synthetic turf cleaning maintenance is not carried out. We have installed 2G sand filled tennis court surfaces in a number of locations at places like schools, sports clubs and private sports facilities as the synthetic specification is a lot more durable than natural grass. However heavy use and lack of proper care can make the artificial turf lose its porosity and stop draining water as moss and algae start to build up, this means the sports court becomes unusable.

Synthetic Turf Cleaning Maintenance

For any artificial grass sports surface, it’s important to make sure that synthetic turf cleaning maintenance is done on a regular basis to prevent any damage or problems with the surfacing. Because leaves, dirt and other debris can often fall onto tennis courts, you should have the area brushed to remove these and stop them from contaminating the grass pile or the sand infill. Drag brushing to redistribute the silica sand particles is also advised because this stops the sand from becoming compacted and ensures that the tennis court system remains permeable and able to drain water.

Take a look at the video below to see the full process of cleaning a tennis court surface to get it looking and playing its best:

Maintaining Tennis Court Surfaces

Sometimes artificial tennis courts can fall into disrepair if they are not used much and don’t get the right amount of care, this can mean that reactive synthetic turf cleaning maintenance is needed. This type of sports surface maintenance is done to fix damage which has already been caused to the tennis court such as tears in the carpet, broken seams and contamination from moss and algae. We can carry out a number of different maintenance processes for the problems including astro turf seam repairs and sports court rejuvenations and refurbishment. The rejuvenation works involve taking out the dirty layer of sand infill which could be contaminated with moss, and replacing it with fresh sand which improves the playing qualities and the look of the tennis court.

Without the correct synthetic turf cleaning maintenance for your tennis court, it can become waterlogged as contamination and compaction within the carpet pile will block up the pores and stop water from draining away. This is why it’s very important to put a regular cleaning schedule in place to stop these problems from occurring.
