Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Brown and Green Rubber Mulch Bench Surround in Birmingham.

So for this job the client got in touch with us looking for a new surface to surround their park bench, and wanted something that looked natural without the typical maintenance needed. We explained the rubber mulch we could offer, and very shortly after got to work installing.

So rubber mulch is a surface type consisting of recycled rubber chippings, coloured and blended together to create a natural-looking surface.

Rubber mulch has many benefits, the first of which being the fact that despite giving off this natural appearance, rubber mulch is largely maintenance-free. Occasional brushing off of the surface is all that’s required for rubber mulch, which is perfect for those wanting a that natural look but without the added effort.

In addition to this, rubber mulch is a very safe surface for those walking on it due to it’s rubber qualities, which ensures it absorbs falls and trips really well. It’s also simply a great surface to walk on, giving a nice feedback under-foot.

Finally, this surface option is also porous, and water is absorbed through the mulch during our more difficult months. This makes it an ideal outdoor surface option here in the UK.

We’ve been fitting rubber mulch to surfaces of all shapes and sizes nationwide for over 20 years now, so if you are interested please feel free to get in touch with us.

You can see now that the job has been completed, and looks really fantastic in the park it was installed at. The client was very happy with the final result.

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a Bespoke Playground Surfacing with Graphics in Northampton.

So we were contacted by the nursery school that owns this outdoor area, and were looking to convert it into an outdoor playground with education graphics scattered across the surface. We explained what we could offer them, and we were quickly booked in on site to carry out the job.

So at Soft Surfaces we’re specialist playground installers, and have been fitting and maintaining play area flooring nationwide for over 20 years. The most popular surface type we fit is wetpour, which is the surface we chose for this job.

Wetpour is a spongy safety surfacing made up of EPDM rubber, and offers fantastic safety credentials because of its compound. This makes wetpour the go to safety option for UK play areas, and we’re proud to have become a market leader for this flooring type.

Wetpour is also a very popular surface choice because of the fact that it’s porous, which means rain is simply absorbed by the wetpour itself during rainy seasons. It’s because of this that wetpour is so well suited to outdoor facilities here it Britain.

Finally, at Soft Surfaces we can fit your wetpour playground surfacing in basically any colour you choose, and not only that, we also offer a bespoke graphics service where we can fit graphics such as educational games, shapes, logos and more flush to your surface as part of the install. We can arrange all of this with you during the enquiry stage.

Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today we’re going to be showing you a spongy playground flooring construction that we carried out in Woking, Surrey.

So you’ll see here from these photos that this installation was carried out at a small nursery, and required us removing the existing worn surface to replace it with a bespoke safety flooring for their children to use.

After chatting with the client over the phone, it was quickly agreed that the best surface option for them to go for was a EPDM rubber wetpour specification. This is a surface type we’ve been in installing nationwide for over 2 decades now, and offers the following advantages:

Firstly, wetpour is arguably the safest play area surfacing you can have installed, as a result of it consisting of a spongy rubber compound. This surface meets the critical fall heights requirements needed, and therefore ensures the children remain as safe as possible during playtime.

Additionally, something that people love about wetpour is the ability to have this flooring fitted exactly to your liking. You can have wetpour installed in any colour you like, and you can also have custom graphics fitted to the surface too, including shapes, games, logos and more! We can plan all of this out with you prior to the install.

Finally, wetpour is also a porous system, making it ideal as an outdoor flooring choice here in the UK. We’re proud to have become market leaders at installing this surface type, so please feel free to get in touch if you are interested.

Long Jump and High Jump Track Construction

Our team recently installed a long jump and high jump facility for a school in Derby. Check out the video below to see the full process.

Video Transcript

Hi guys it’s Dan here, and today i’m going to be showing you a Long Jump Runway and High Jump Fan Installation in Derby.

So you’ll be able to see from these early photos here that this client actually had an old worn out long jump facility on their field to begin with, but were looking to have this dug out and replaced with a brand new multi-lane surface.

We explained the surfacing options we could offer them, and we very quickly agreed that a multisport synthetic long jump surface would be perfect for their needs.

Multisport synthetic is a hard-wearing fake grass solution that not only feels wonderful to use for athletics, but also is perfect as an outdoor option due to it’s material type. This then makes it a perfect choice for long jumps and triple jumps here in the UK.

Furthermore, opting for a multisport synthetic gives you the ability to have a facility fitted in literally any colour you’d like, and you can specify this with us during the enquiry stage. For example this client went for a red and blue multi-lane facility, which ended up looking great and standing out on their large field.

At Soft Surfaces we’ve been building and maintaining these long jump and high jump facilities for over 20 years now, and we will work on any job of any size across the UK, so please feel free to get in touch if you are interested.

5-a-Side Football Pitch Construction With 3g Artificial Turf

We have installed a number of 5-a-side sports pitches across the UK to various schools and sports club facilities. One of our latest projects was a 5-a-side football pitch construction with 3G artificial turf for a primary school in London.

The school chose to have a synthetic grass pitch installed as the 3G specification is much easier to look after than natural grass. You can also use it throughout the whole year, even in wet weather.

Talk To Us

5-a-side Football Pitch Construction

This school had an existing natural grass area which wasn’t suitable for use as a sports pitch so they decided to resurface it in 3G artificial turf. The first part of the 3G football pitch construction was to excavate the natural grass surface and prepare the ground for the new pitch to be installed. We ripped up the old grass, leaving a smooth layer of soil beneath which could then be used for the rest of the 5-a-side football pitch construction.

When the ground had been excavated to the right depth, we could then install a soakaway system. This aids in drainage and helps to prevent flooding to the sports facility. Next was the application of a sports sub base. For this type of project, we typically use a dynamic stone sub-base. This is porous and gives the rest of the pitch a solid and even foundation.

Contact Us

We compact the stones down to make sure that they lock together and the sub-base is completely smooth. After the dynamic sub-base has been compacted, a layer of macadam will be applied. This gives the pitch a durable and long lasting base layer. It also creates a smooth foundation to lay the 3G grass carpet onto.

3G Turf Installation

After installing the groundworks and sub base, the next stage of this 5-a-side football pitch construction project was the 3G turf installation. This synthetic grass surface type is popular for football pitches. It has a specific design to replicate the performance of natural grass. 3G pitches have a sand and rubber infill layer installed between the synthetic fibres to improve comfort and enhance the playability.

The 3G turf carpet was installed in separate rolls which were then glued together at the edges and the seams. We do this to secure the carpet into place. Inlaid line markings were then applied in white, along with the sand and rubber infill. We spread this evenly throughout the synthetic fibres to ensure an even playing surface. This is one of the main benefits of the surface as it doesn’t become muddy or uneven during wet weather. Visit this post to find out more about the benefits of these surfaces.

Get in Touch

After the 5-a-side football pitch construction was complete, the primary school had a top quality sports surface. They can now use this for training and playing football matches. The 3G artificial turf will be a long-lasting all-weather surface. It should also be able to withstand a lot of heavy use all year round. You should carry out 3G pitch maintenance regularly to keep it in top condition.

If you’d like any further information on 3G synthetic football pitches or any of the other sports facilities we specialise in, please have a look at our website on http://softsurfaces.co.uk. Synthetic Grass Surfacing Options

When you choose to install a brand new artificial sports pitch for your school, college, club or leisure centre, it’s important that you explore all the options to ensure you get the best synthetic grass surfacing for the activities you want to play. There are a number of different specifications that we can offer to suit many sports including football, tennis, hockey and rugby. If you have any specific sports that you’d like to use the facility for, or if you want it to be suitable for all activities, we can help.

Get in Touch

Take a look at some of the different sport surfacing specifications we install:

3G Synthetic Grass Surfacing

The 3G artificial grass specification is the most advanced synthetic turf sport surfacing option and is commonly used for football and rugby pitches. A rubber infill layer is installed into a 3G synthetic pitch to give natural playing characteristics. This then helps to protect players’ joints and muscles from injuries during sport. The rubber granules are applied within the fibres of the pitch along with an application of silica. This is designed to create a stable and comfortable playing surface for training and competitive matches. Many schools and clubs throughout the UK choose to have this type of artificial turf flooring installed. This is often done to replace damaged and worn out natural grass pitches which may be unsafe and unsuitable for use.

2G Sand Filled Turf

The sand filled synthetic grass surfacing specification is a versatile surface type which can be used for multi sports such as football and hockey. This all-weather pitch system has a layer of silica sand applied within the artificial turf fibres of the pitch surface. The infill helps to keep the fibres upright and promotes good playing characteristics. Sand filled artificial turf is a durable and long lasting pitch material. This is why it is very popular with schools and leisure centres where sports facilities have to withstand a lot of heavy use.

2G Sand Dressed Surfacing

The 2G sand dressed specification is very similar to the other 2G system as it has a layer of infill installed within the turf fibres. However, there is only a thin layer of sand as these artificial pitch carpets tend to have a shorter pile height. These qualities make sand dressed sports pitches perfect for playing hockey. The short pile height allows the ball to glide smoothly across the surface and the turf fibres are kept stable.

Multisport Needlepunch Surface

The Multisport needlepunch sports pitch material is a durable and hard wearing surface option which is similar to the Playrite Matchplay 2 system. The curly yarn fibres make the needlepunch synthetic specification an ideal choice for multi use games areas and athletics track facilities. This fibre bonded synthetic grass surfacing is commonly installed at primary schools in the UK as it comes in a range of bright colours. It also provides a soft impact absorbing sport surface to prevent injuries. It can also be designed with different coloured squares and sections so the a number of activities can be done at the same time.

Alternatives to Artificial Grass Pitches

If you’re thinking of installing a multi use games area, but you don’t think a grass pitch would be right for the sports you want to play, there are some alternatives which provide great playing characteristics for activities like tennis, netball and basketball. Polymeric rubber and macadam court surfaces are very common in the UK as they are suitable for use in all weather conditions and provide excellent ball bounce capabilities for a number of different sports. Polymeric and macadam surfaces can have anti slip paint coatings and line markings applied in contrasting colours to distinguish between the sports you choose to play.

We install a wide variety of different sport surfacing options at various locations in the UK and we would be happy to discuss your enquiry with you. Sand Filled Synthetic Turf Pitch Costs

Sand filled synthetic turf pitches are very popular in the UK due to the multi functional/multi sport use in all weather conditions. Sand filled pitches can also be used on MUGA construction, due to the different multi sports played on the same surface, in a contained and controlled environment.

Talk To Us

Sand Filled Synthetic Turf Specification

Sand filled synthetic turf 2G all weather pitch surfacing can be used for many different sports like football, hockey, tennis and rugby and can be constructed to many different specifications, designs and sizes such as 60m x 30m. The sand filled synthetic turf pitch surfacing is made up of an artificial grass carpet which has a layer of sand infill installed at the base of the turf fibres. This sand infill layers helps to keep the grass fibres upright and maintain good performance characteristics. These types of surfaces can be used at organisations such as sports clubs, playgrounds, parks and schools and can be built to suit many different budgets and specifications. There are also other 2G synthetic grass surfaces which can be used for astroturf pitches. Sand dressed is also a very common choice, sand dressed means that the fibres of the grass are only partly filled whereas sand filled means that the fibre of the artificial grass is filled to the tip of the grass.

Rejuvenation and renovation can also play parts in the design and construction of these surfaces. The rejuvenation process involves the extraction of contaminated sand infill from the 2G sand filled synthetic turf or sand filled artificial grass, this dirty sand is then replaced with a new layer of clean sand. It’s important to carry out rejuvenation if the sand infill becomes dirty and contaminated as it can have a negative effect on the performance and safety qualities of the sand filled synthetic turf facility if left untreated. The maintenance costs can be significant if the surfacing is left as things like sand infill contamination, sand infill compaction and joint repairs may all need to be considered.

Sand Filled Pitch Costs

The costs of the full build or construction of these sand filled synthetic turf sports facilities can vary due to the size, specification, location and type of surfacing can have effects on the total cost. If you would like any further information about costs of installing a sand filled sports pitch facility, please fill in the contact form on the right of this page and we will get back to you with some helpful advice. Repairing Synthetic Turf

Astro turf pitches are often in need of small or large scale repairs, these are determined by the age of the sports surfacing, the amount of use the facility gets and the type or amount of maintenance that the surface receives. The services carried out when repairing synthetic turf pitches can include seam or joint repairs and new game line markings – often with them being cut into the existing grass. Tears and rips can occur if the surfaces has been damaged by use, seams not quite being installed correctly or just plain old bad luck! They can however, be fixed quickly in lots of cases is the problem is dealt with as soon as possible.

We are specialists in the sports sector and we have a number of options to help you with repairing synthetic turf sports pitches. We can supply artificial grass repair kits which are very effective in repairing synthetic turf surfaces, we can also visit site to assess the damage and to give the client an honest opinion. More serious repairs or reactive maintenance may need to be carried out the pitch is in very bad condition, this could include infill rejuvenation or even a total resurfacing project. As the current man made synthetic grass may be constructed, designed and specified over many different areas and are sizes, only a small amount may need to be repaired. These kits include the backing geo textile material, glue cartridge, 4mm tongue spreader, gloves and a mastic gun and this will enable you to remove the existing grass that needs to be repaired (section only) and replace with new, although the new grass will have to be sourced.

Proactive Maintenance

In order to prevent any damage to your synthetic turf sport pitch, it is recommended that you carry out regular proactive maintenance to keep the artificial surface in top condition. Maintenance for synthetic turf sport grass could include drag brushing to remove debris, chemical treatments to prevent contamination from moss and algae, as well as redistributing the sand and rubber infill particles.

If you need any advice or help with repairing synthetic turf sport pitches, please fill in the contact form on the right of this page and one of our team members will get back to you with some helpful information regarding maintenance, costs and quotes.
